And developing JG since they are insistent on playing him. We didn’t try to keep Adrian Martinez and had a good shot at Howell, but chose Maurer. Two big misses.

Also brought up not going after Martinez hard enough and basically letting him go.

AP was pretty intent on making it sound pretty damning that we could have possibly signed those two, But instead wound up with shrout and Maurer... Not a good look with that frame.

Martinez is really bad too so that wasn't a big loss.

I don’t remember the circumstances of the Martinez decommitment but I do remember CJP and others went to California and sat down with his family. There was an article about it - probably could be found in the Martinez thread.

Family didn’t like Pruitts brutal honest approach and the family had fallen in love with what Frost was selling.

Frost had UCF QBs putting up ridiculous numbers and was telling Martinez he’d start as a freshman.

I want to say the Howell thing was Helton didn’t like him but I could be wrong.

I hope Maurer is healthy and plays tomorrow, and I hope he balls out. Mostly just to shut people up who keep calling him a "headcase" or comment on his "mental problems". Kid has depression. Let him release the recordings. Otherwise I sleep at night. I also believe Martinez was a flip as soon as Frost landed the Nebraska gig...if not before. A lot of that was Pruitt and Helton not securing that relationship but more of it was Martinez was always tight with Frost. Not enough to commit to UCF...but it would’ve been tight with them “winning the NC”.

Either way. Just reiterating how AP framed the situation... Which I think is significant...

How does it seem like we continually miss on the QB that could have turned things around for us? From Tajh Boyd and on...like a curse.

Boyd was committed to us but Lane ran him off when he was hired. He didn't fit what Lane wanted to do or something like that. He also ran of the other QB who was committed to us also. Both of them became starters at their respective schools. Good ole Lane.

Yeah I heard him. I remember back when it was real time and the GQ was asking about the mutual interest and he wasn’t as detailed. “Could have” leaves a lot of waggle room and intrigue never hurt a paid site.
