SIAP Pruitt fired Brum during the game?

Alabama has one of the worst D in the country and took over GA in the 2nd.
LOL when I read that comment, but then checked the stats and you are correct. They are way towards the bottom in total defense in the country. Interesting to note, only 5 teams are lower than UF. This makes me feel slightly more optimistic about those games and the fact that UK is #3 in the SEC right behind UGA.

Was not a rash decision. Go back and watch the beginning of the Kentucky game. Rogers was talking about how vocal Pruitt has been about being unhappy about the D-line play.

At that point the defense was pitching a shut out, no? Hadn’t the defense already forced a turnover and a punt? Was Pruitt unhappy after the pick 6? And then the second pick 6? It seems, from an outsider looking in, his anger and outspokenness was misplaced.

Maybe Weinke will be next. Saying that I realize I sound like a jackass but I am tired of getting drilled by teams that we should beat

You seem to have the pulse of the locker room. I got hard news for you though, Pruitt is going to be here at least two more years, so you may have to modify your expectations and attitude accordingly....
You're right about Pruitt being here for a while, anything short of a scandal or murder.

Here's the reason

Ummm, no. They didn’t stick with anyone. They fired Larry Porter after one year. Fuente had success early and the rest is history.

They fished and fished until they caught the big one.

I think Porter made it 2 years. The scary thing is Memphis chose Porter over Dooley.....

I'm starting to wonder if the defense got wind of whatever he was saying, then he gets canned mid-game... couple that with our QB play and it's no wonder the defense laid down the second half, right?

Pruitt made a comment about protecting players. Maybe it was coach speak, or maybe Brumbaugh said something inappropriate to JG directly.

Mark Stoops comments on Tennessee firing assistant following loss to Kentucky
“Really disappointed to hear of that,” Stoops said at his Monday press conference. “Caught word of that yesterday and I wasn’t sure whether that was true or not, I didn’t reach out to the friends that I have on that program. I certainly will reach out to Jimmy, though. Jimmy I do consider a friend and know him obviously personally from being with me and his family and wish nothing but the best for him, he’s a quality coach, he’s a good coach and he’ll land on his feet with no problem. I have no idea what goes on there, that’s not my business, but at some point I will reach out to Jimmy, and that’s disappointing.”
It was announced Sunday evening, that's where he heard it, not Saturday. I can't believe you guys actually believe a hack who has no inside sources at Tennessee.

While those stats may be true, didn't Bama defense shut down UGA in the second half (when it mattered) with that game on the line?
Anyhow, I would be very careful ever dismissing Saban (or Belichick) defenses. Over the years as soon as people did that those two seemed to miraculously turn things around (quickly) and win championships.

Doesn't "following" mean after not during?

Coaching staff wasnt told about his firing until early this week. If it had happened during the game players and coaches would have been aware Saturday. Didn't happen, this guy covers KY, he doesn't have access to TN the way countless other Tennessee insiders do. How would they break a story like that and beat a dozen better connected TN media members to this story line? They wouldn't, because it's a farce.
Yep, this was probably written for clicks by a kid living in his mom,s basement. But does sound like coach Pruitt.

I was just pointing out that he was correct in terms of Bama's defensive ranking. I don't think anyone questions Saban's coaching or game planning brilliance.

I get that - was not meant as any type of criticism. Just wanted to point out that while stats do matter, in case of Saban (and especially on the defensive side) they can be meaningless. He has certainly had some games over the years where his defenses got lit up but rarely that lasted more than a few consecutive games (makes me nervous that he seems to be turning it around going into our game where we already have such a mess with our own offense). Having said this, I don't think our offense is as bad as we have seen over last couple of games - it's possible we can be positively surprised this Saturday (and no better game for that to happen than Bama - I'm really curious if our offensive line can finally step up and live up to it's potential - if that's the case we may not even need QB's to do much other than simply manage the running game for the most part).

Brum coached at UK for a while so that could be the source. Im sure there's an administrative channel that Pruitt had to navigate to "fire" him that couldn't be done until after the game but Pruitt telling him he's no longer needed during the game could have happened. This news broke Sunday publicly so it would suck if the staff didnt know until Monday or Tuesday

Confused, did Brumbaugh's D-Line throw two pick 6 INT's?

Of course not but they helped giving up many easy throws and did not pressure the opposing QB's (played with no intensity and seemingly gave up in second half of last couple of games). Offensive issues are obviously separate and need to be addressed but Chaney is a proven quantity which means he has a lot more credit (given his resume) than someone like Brumbaugh and will be given a lot more time to address/fix. Also, Pruitt is a defensive guru himself so any issues on the defensive side are probably more obvious and magnified in his eyes.

None of us have a clue about any specific event that may have contributed to the firing. At this time anyway.
