Why is it...

You can actually enroll in basket weaving at UNC, not go to class and receive an A. Oh yeah nobody gets in trouble. At UT the hammer would fall!!!
This is the main reason we don’t get top proven winners when we coach shop!!!
The FALSe idea that we are morally superior to the others. The coach has to come up to Our standard.
There are only a limited # of them available, very limited, and we eliminate 2/3’s of them as not fitting in here!
Mike leach, Hugh Freeze, Urban Myer, etc don’t fit the good ol boy image that’ll bleed orange.

The SEC is tough on Tennessee football, a huge challenge for the Vols to get a proven HC

We could have got mullens if we had moved faster, we could have got hugh freeze, patrino, got to decide if you want to win or not, probably could have got urban meyer for the right money, Bob Stoops would coach for the right money.

With that said, I still believe in Pruitt if he can get the qb act together, I think he is making a terrible mistake by playing jg. Imo we can compete with any team if we had a good qb.

See my post right above yours.
We will never attempt to get a Freeze or Petrino or probably even Myer. Their image is not up to our mythical standard

With what we have paid out in buyouts and salary the last 10 years we could have had any coach we wanted. Bargain shopping has actually costed us money. Sadly our administration doesn't learn from mistakes they just keep driving the square peg in to the circular hole.

Programs like UNC can get CMB and get national attention, yet we seem to end up being the butt of jokes! What gives? CMB was headed into retirement I thought, but comes back to help an ACC team get exposure -- a basketball school no less.

With our pedigree, we should be getting the good coaches lining up at the door. Is there something about Tennessee that puts people off?

When you’ve had the worst 13 year stretch in your program’s history........virtually no one is lining up looking to take part in that.

You would have to way......WAY overpay someone......and that ain’t even an option until Pruitt has 5 years here.

We are literally in year 14 of the worst 14 year stretch in Tennessee history.

Right

They didnt have those OOC powerhouses Georgia State and BYU.....
They had South Carolina who we killed, mercer, and and App State. That one is certainly a tough game, but we still could've won that. To be fair to them, they didn't lose a game by more than 1 possession all year, and lost two in OT. They probably should've been 10-2 last year as well.

We don’t have people in place that can attract top coaching talent or identify coaching talent in an up and comer type hire

Yet South Carolina, who has never won a damn thing in the entirety of their existence, can hire Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, and Will Muschamp, back to back to back. Fine, Muschamp isn't great, but the other two are National Championship winning coaches.

We get Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt. We lose.

Tennessee gets plenty of attention......even when they don’t deserve it.

Heck Tennessee was ranked what.....12th...in the country?

And got slapped in the mouth at home to the tune of a 27 point loss.

Tennessee is their own worst enemy.

When we, without any real reason, moved into the top 15 I told my wife I needed to find my jockstrap and cup. You can almost set your watch by us crapping the bed the moment we begin to get some positive National Media attention.

Every. Single. Time.

Sam Howell is the difference. He's elite. Plus the ACC sucks, we'd have been 10-2 with their schedule last year.
No. We should have been 10-3 (9-3) with our schedule last year.

Pruitt needs to improve or hit the road...

Yup. I'd ride it out with Pruitt. Pay off those buyouts and then start gauging interest of elite HC's with generous offers. That's if Pruitt hasn't righted the ship before the end of his contract. Not that it matters, the AD has already demonstrated time and time again they're incapable of making logically sound decisions.

Sounds good. Unfortunately we'll still hire our next coach off of Craigslist. It's the Tennessee way.

I wish it were an option. I wish Tennessee “would” be willing to hand out money “up front” to coaches like it were ice cream. I wish some great coach was waiting at the door......but none of that is true.

I don’t like Pruitt (right now) simply because he gave me hope......and promptly dashed it......but he is here for a while. I certainly hope things change and he becomes great.

I’m not holding my breath.....but one can dream.

Couldn’t have said it better. We here at TN just can’t stand prosperity! I think some people would enjoy the Vols rise up again.
