Given the notion that Maurer hasn’t gotten many reps can/will you share why you felt he was the best option? You're correct and when I posted it ppl were mad at me. I'm not a sunshine pumper. JG has NEVER been good. This offseason in scrimmages he did the exact same **** he did yesterday. The defense was picking him off left and right. Ppl can remain in denial but dude needs to find his future profession and get an early head start on it and gv up football.
You are right that JG has never been good. He may have salvaged some games last year, but it wasn't because he was great, the team just found a way to win. Even last year when Maurer was put in, the team seemed to click better. Unfortunately he seems to be made of glass and couldn't stay healthy for us to get a good enough picture. I was with Fulmer in the spring who was saying how good Maurer was in practice, but then would just make a totally "freshman" throw and it would make you scratch your head.
The truth is, JG is not elite enough to take over games, and our defense is still young. We need a better offense to take the pressure of the younger front 7. In yesterday's game you had two true freshman and a sophomore LB corps in the front 7. JG reminds me of the Matt Sims to Tyler Bray. The better example is the Worley to Dobbs time. Worley was the more experienced QB and the "safer" pic. Those same days we blamed the OL, or the receivers...we were saying things like "Peyton couldn't be successful behind this line..." Then Dobbs came in. Yes he had the running dimension, but he seemed to move in the pocket better, and make decisions quicker. All of the sudden the OL started playing better. The offense started moving. Sometimes a QB can just stand in the way of progress. JG apparently doesn't inspire hard play, and he gets some people exposed by his lack of decision making. He is just too slow to make a decision. Too many of the sacks happen when he is still looking at a receiver. Some of those should at least happen while he is in a throwing motion. He just waits and waits and waits. I like the kid, but his time is done. In my opinion Maurer would be the next guy in, but he is hurt a gain. JT Shrout seems to not be great. Yes he threw some pretty balls downfield last year, but he doesn't seem to be able to run the offense with the other throws. I think it should be a Maurer/Bailey play off to see who wins the job, if Maurer can ever be healthy. Bailey needs to see some time, but his playbook would be too small. If we could get Maurer healthy, he could help us this year. I hope we can shake this off and move forward.
For this reason alone, our staff needs to clean out their lockers. And that is the problem. Of course if he gets 40 reps a practice and the others get none or <5-10 he will look better than the others. The others didn’t even have a chance to show their talents.
And if he gets hurt, we have no backups who have taken practice snaps with the actual game plan.
This is coaching malpractice.
Not me! IYou're correct and when I posted it ppl were mad at me. I'm not a sunshine pumper. JG has NEVER been good. This offseason in scrimmages he did the exact same **** he did yesterday. Yes. It was a shot at Chaney. Not good and especially when Chaney is probably not playing the QB he'd rather be playing.
JG has always been a practice All American. He does "drills" good. He apparently doesn't make mistakes in practice. In practice, things don't break down like they do in games. In practice, they blow the whistle before a QB has to get creative or throw on the run or improvise.
Oh. Yeah, don’t know anything about that. I only have an opinion why. A lot of people reported Maurer looked good last summer, but I think he would have make any coach nervous. Pruitt seems very old school conservative who leans towards comfort in age/experience. He better move away from that soon or he will lose control of the operation. JG is an outstanding person. Unfortunately when the lights come on he is okay at his best but more often inconsistent and mistake prone. I think a lot of fans forget how many passes were off target last year but #1 & #15 bailed him out with great catches. We have seen what he can do and I feel we have seen the best he can be. If pruitt wants to save his future he needs to show that he can move on from his safety valve and go for it. I think fans would give him more of a break on some losses if it looked like he was moving on to find answers rather that accepting what we all see.Pruitt has never had anything good to say about Maurer or Shrout. If Fulmer told you how good Maurer usually is at practice for the most part it’s contradictory to what Pruitt has said. Therefore it sounds more and more personal.

He’s too selfish to do that. See the Alabama game last year and the many times he’s been seen pouting after his mistakes. You're correct and when I posted it ppl were mad at me. I meant to say as well, I can see Maurer making any coach nervous. He’s a gunslinger and that’s what gunslingers do. You’ll never see me say that he won’t have turnovers.Oh. Yeah, don’t know anything about that. I only have an opinion why. A lot of people reported Maurer looked good last summer, but I think he would have make any coach nervous. A freshman cant be trusted to make the correct decisions 100% of the time???? Is that what your saying
It just means Pruitt prefers the check down over the chance. That’s all.Where did you get 100% of the time. See, you're adding to whatever has already been said. Go back and see what Fulmer said. He said he was good, but It's basically boneheaded plays. Like the light is on, but then he has a blackout thus can't be trusted. That also could be said of JG also. And what does it say bout Maurer and Strout if they cant perform good enough in practice to beat JG out?
Thats why i was clarifying....Where did you get 100% of the time. See, you're adding to whatever has already been said. Go back and see what Fulmer said. CHANEY. Pure and Simple. Third week in a row I have posted this comment. JG is living up to his dismal potential and why oh why can't CC see that?
I have ZERO respect for Chaney and his lack of game plan. Please CJP, step in or you too will fall by the wayside as a result of a coach that has absolutely NO IDEA how to read defenses and play to your teams strengths. KY athletes being better than ours is preposterous. Our kids are depressed and embarrassed and now it is up to CJP to right the ship, which will be phenomenally easy once Chaney is off our boat!! Good riddance CC, and don't eat the door on the way out!!! (btw, anyone having Randy Sanders flashbacks....???????????)
It took 4 years and another thread to figure this out?I truly believe JG must be a much better QB in practice than at game speed. He seems to have a very difficult time making good decisions in games. His indecisiveness creates time for defenses to react to his throws. CJP even alluded to that post game when he said throwing the ball 35 TDs across the field to possibly gain 5 yds is not a good decision. I don't know if that was a shot at Chaney or JG. In other words when the lights come on he ain't the guy.
