Just posted by C. Low on ESPN. Very interesting thoughts... notice the inclusion of Bill Callahan even...

It shouldn't take too long for Lane Kiffin's staff at Tennessee to start taking shape.

And if he's able to pull everything off (and if the Vols are willing to fork out the money), Kiffin has a chance to put together a staff with several big names.

At the top of the list is his father, Monte Kiffin, the defensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one of the most respected defensive minds in the game.

Kiffin has also talked to former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron about joining him in Knoxville. Orgeron, now the defensive line coach with the New Orleans Saints, is a relentless recruiter with ties in the Southeast and on the West Coast. He and Kiffin worked together on the Southern California staff earlier this decade.

David Reaves, Kiffin's brother-in-law and the quarterbacks coach at South Carolina, is expected to join the Vols' staff in a similar capacity.

Yogi Roth, a graduate assistant at Southern California, is also one to watch and could come with Kiffin as the Vols' receivers coach.

Other possibilities include Art Kehoe, who was Orgeron's offensive line coach at Ole Miss and before that the offensive line coach at Miami, and Bill Callahan, the former Oakland Raiders and Nebraska coach who's now an assistant on the New York Jets' staff.

In addition, Kiffin may look to hire somebody assigned exclusively to special teams, something Phillip Fulmer never did. The Vols' assistants split up the special teams duties under Fulmer.

I don't mind any of it except the Callahan mention. I would prefer him not to come to Knoxvegas.

His offensives have always succeeded. He is just an awful HC. Go look at his offensive numbers. We would be lucky to have him as an OC.

I hope you are right. I am actually pretty openminded about this whole thing as I just want to "try" something different.

I believe David Reaves is the guy recruiting Jarvis Giles to USCe...

will be interesting to see what Giles does now with Reaves likely coming here...

I would wager that he will be a vol

David Reaves? I don't know if i want anybody on staff that is responsible for coaching South Carolinas QBs. They are as bad as ours.

that would be neat to have an awesome special teams

Yup, saw a special on CUM and Florida special teams and I would love that kind of emphasis here. I never understood why Fulmer refused to hire a full time ST coach when their play bit him in the ass year after year.

I do not want the quarterback coach from south carolina... are you kiddin me? why would we do that, thats where we need to have somebody get hands on with this group and teach them how to play the position. i dont want any coach from sce. there quarterback play has been mediocre at best for the last 20 years. no thanks on that one

He's the quarterback coach in title only. Spurrier's more hands-on with the Carolina qbs than Reaves is.

Reaves' primary responsibility is recruiting coordinator...he's been solid in that role at South Carolina.

What do you know about the guy other than the fact he is currently at SC?

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't want a QB coach that learned under one of the best QB coaches of all-time. I heard the guy can't recruit either.

Well he also said this in another thread. :eek:lol:

If it is kiffen, i hope his dad stays in tampa. the spread and the speed in the sec is two hard to defend in the "tampa two" . we already run a version of that now and there are huge holes all over the field and too many times the defenders are at a disadvantage. example being a rico mccoy trying to stay with percay harvin in space or dmo manned up on the fourth receiver. even berry cant keep up with some of the guys he sees in the slot. i want to see an attacking man coverage defense. not this sit back and wait for a mistake crap that chavis has been doing for the last 4 or 5 seasons. we have the athletes to press recievers at the line, blitz up the middle and off the edges, and attack the football. i dont like orgeron as he is in the middle of too many infractions..directly or indirectly. id like to see a different staff altogether but i will support whoever it is. the only guy im really excited about is maybe sarkesian. i really do like usc's PLAYBOOK. they have a lot of formations and consistantly have players running open all over the field and i really like the way there offensive line is coached and the technique that they use.

Wish he said '"will" hire somebody assigned exclusively to special teams' rather than "may."

Halleleujah

Amen.

thought this deserved to be quoted again!

And again and again and again!!

that would be neat to have an awesome special teams

Would translate to two more wins a year on the average imo.

Now scrap the yoga program and I'm on the road to being a happy camper.

What has the qb production been at south carolina since spurriers been there. none of there qbs has been considered a top tier sec quarterback. if he is a recruitng wizard as some say he is, then i can live with that. why not let him be the recruiting coordinator then and give coach o( who im not in favor of) just the d line to handle. i want somebody who has shown the ability to COACH UP the qbs, not someone whos position has been the weakest link on his team.

I'd take Callahan all day long.... Folks have a bad taste following the Nebraska "HC" gig but the dude is still a dynamic "offensive" mind!!!
