Da Reds thread

No matter what happens, this season has given the org and fans hope for the future after way too long at the bottom.

After all those series wins in a row with an 11-3 finish - who knows, could be special. Glad they are able to lead it off with Bauer.

How do you have hope for a future without Bauer?!

It’s not much of one. They have three players under 30 who have proven they can hit at all and two of those guys (Suarez/Castellanos) will be 29 next year.

Shogo has turned into one of the best leadoff hitters over the last 30 games. Winker, Senzel (if he somehow managed to stay healthy), and Aquino have all flashed at times.

Then Garcia has the potiental to be our best SS since Cozart and It's hard to not be excited about Stephenson behind the plate.

Suarez is locked up to a good deal, Castellanos is probably not heading anywhere with his stats this year, Moose is in Cincy for a couple of years, Castillo has a good future ahead of him, and Sonny seems to like Cincinnati and still has good years ahead.

Bauer is not the only reason to be optimistic this year as a Reds fan, but he's been fun to watch.

Plus they are planning to offer Bauer for next year. When you compete to sign top FA's it sends a message to all FA's that you want to win and they will seriously consider coming to your org. Look at the words of Trevor himself in the past week. He wants to sign one year contracts so he can find teams where he can compete for championships. He bets on himself instead of having teams cover him for off years. He makes the case for coming back if the numbers are acceptable because he believes in the team's future.

Regardless, the core is there and controlled for a bright future.

Ok, now we can start working on our disappointment. Too bad someone had to lose that one. Wasted an epic outing with bad base running skills and zero timely hitting.

Followed along at work today and I absolutely can't believe what happened during the game, 11 hits and not a single run damn. A game like this could carry over into tomorrow.

Well that sucked. Votto may go his whole career without a playoff win what a great job at wasting a generational level talent Cincy.

I think Castellanos ends staying truthfully. The free agent budgets will be heavily slashed next year, he didn’t really produce all that much, and the fact he doesn’t want to be a DH alone and we’re probably one of the few teams to allow him to play the field consistently.

I agree. He's got a lot to prove next season. His salary demands will scare most teams off and I'm sure he is agent will tell him.

Laid the proverbial egg. They are not going to enjoy thinking about it during the offseason.

It's definitely time to reassess the hitting coaches, their philosophies, and the related analytics. It's a crazy year, but there was enough work and games played to see that what they are trying to do is failing.

Williams said he expects Castellanos to stay, that he likes his teammates the environment. Hope he hits better next season. If he doesn't hit well you sure don't want him in there for his D. He also said they are going to reassess their hitting approach. Expects the coaching staff to be back. It read like the players were not getting the philosophy and approach - they got long ball hungry. He said Garcia and Stephenson will open the season in Cincy - proved themselves to the org. So that leaves a catcher available to move since Farmer is #3. They have Lorenzen will be in the mix to be a SP next season. So I doubt they go hard to sign Bauer and will let Disco walk. With Mahle, Antone, Lodolo, Greene, etc. they probably do not need to kill the payroll for a SP.
