Last night I watched the Alabama-Missouri game given the accolades Missouri has gotten for “beating Alabama in the 2nd half” of their game. So Jones and Harris leave the game when the score is 35-3 and Young and Sanders come in. They also start rotating in some young guys on defense because according to Saban in the post-game presser he needs to build some depth. Young and Sanders couldn’t move the ball at all. There’s a huge drop off from Jones to Young and from Harris to Sanders.

With about 9 minutes to go in the game Young is sacked and fumbles the ball to Missouri. At about 8:30 to go in the 4th quarter one of Alabama’s freshmen DBs blows a coverage and Badie gets free for a long touchdown pass. The other score by Missouri in the second half was as time was expiring on the clock. Literally. They didn’t even have the point after attempt.

I thought Jones, Harris, Waddle, and Smith looked good for Alabama and obviously they have a good offensive line. I didn’t think their defense looked sharp at all, at least not what I would expect from a Saban defense. They did keep sustained pressure on Robinson but I didn’t think they tackled very well. It looked sloppy. Before the TD pass to Badie midway through the 4th quarter Missouri had 183 yards of offense. They ended up with 322. Obviously Moses looks good and looks to be fully recovered from his injury last year. He runs the Tide defense.

I didn’t think Robinson looked bad but as noted he was under pressure pretty much all the time. He made some plays but obviously not that many. The other QB was in for the 2nd TD and in fact ran it in for the TD as time was expiring. This wasn’t your everyday Alabama goal line stand. I agree that Missouri played hard and didn’t quit. I think Nick Bolton best described their offense, “It’s weird”.

Robinson won a state championship in Texas his senior year in high school and started 7 games for TCU before he got injured and eventually transferred to Missouri.

One of the things I thought I was seeing in our game last week was I didn’t think we were doing a good job of maintaining containment on the edges. I could be wrong and of course South Carolina didn’t do much to exploit that even if I am right. I think Missouri could though but since Missouri showed some option elements in their offense against Alabama I’m guessing our staff will be prepared for that. jmo.

This from Athlon Sports:

This is a comparison of Guarantano, Robinson, and Hill based on the week 1 performance and the depth of their passes:

So you're saying VOLS 100-0.

Random question: Does anyone else feel strange going up to a guy working in the deli and asking for a pound of hard salami?...and then he looks you dead in the eyes and asks you how thick do you want it.

Talk about awkward. I need to stop shopping at Catbone's Publix.
I order that everytime I go, say "as big as you think I need it" and then wink. BUT! I conclude with a "no homo"

Will this be the quietest Neyland has ever been?

20% capacity which will consist mostly of:

The older/nonstudent crowd that sit all dang game

That are now sober without tailgating

...all at noon

Vs an uninspiring opponent

I just hope a few maniacs are there to cheer and be extra loud all game. Maybe ray uga will make an appearance. I hear that guy has passion and energy.

I'll get good and liquored up before I head to the stadium on Saturday and get everyone riled up. I can promise record decibels but I'll do my best!

One more QB stat for Guarantano from last week:

Pruitt suggested that South Carolina had something to do with our performance on 3rd downs last week. Ainge suggested it was both a combination of Muschamp’s scheming and the lack of familiarity between our QB and receivers on the plays that Chaney was calling on 3rd down against Muschamp’s scheming (as it relates to the attempts to convert via the pass). We also had 4 failed run attempts to convert 3rd downs.

Chaney has often said that football to him is like a chess match and of course for the most part he’s trying to figure out the best way to attack his counterpart on the other side of the LOS. Pruitt in the aftermath of the game has said he had a number of play calls on the defensive side that he would like to have back.

The reason I was looking at this is I broke out Guarantano’s passer rating by downs to see how it might look. I mean, in the past I’ve generally thought he was a bit better on 3rd down but then he had been playing with Callaway and Jennings for quite some time and they had had a lot of practice reps together. In short I think it could be a collective effort all the way around but I think we can fix our 3rd down issue and Pruitt has assured us that will happen. TIFWIW.

My advice is to just stick to first downs. Those numbers look pretty good. jmo.

I just ask for the whole log.
