Matthews was a freak at USC at a time when they weren’t as readily apparent. He didn’t improve his draft position by being versatile, he did so by DOMINATING at every position he played. Trey Smith didn’t dominate at LT but he’s generational at LG. Cade has filled in at multiple spots at UGA never establishing himself at any. You don’t draft those first or second day...you take a flyer late in the draft or sign him as an UDFA. I don’t think he transferred here for more of the same. If it’s a true emergency of course you use him elsewhere...I doubt we’re in that territory.I think they're trying to utilize him like a Swiss Army Knife, which could actually play in his favor (for the draft) if he performs well. Sort of the same way the Titans/Oilers used Bruce Matthews towards the end of his career, someone who can play every position (not comparing his talent to a HOF, just the scenario).
I trust our coaches (feels good to say that for three years in a row). If we need help at RT or our RT needs to move inside, I trust their judgement to move a 5 star player around and put our OL in the best place to dominate.
