Year 4 ... Same Old JG

19/31 259 1td 0 int and rushed for another. Those numbers aren't worthy of the legion of the miserable's scorn.
1 for 7 on 3rd down and missed scoring opportunities allowed SC back in the game when the game should of been a blowout by halftime. That is on JG. Only way we win the game is because SC is a mediocre football team. The Qb position is the weak link for us being competitive with the top tier SEC teams. We are capable of competing at every other position group.

On one hand, I want to see Maurer get reps if the score allows it. But on the other hand, bailey is the future and the reps might be better spent on him.
What makes you so sure Bailey is the future? The kid hasn’t taken a single snap much less throw a single pass. This is not HS where he can just take a 3 step drop and throw it deep to dominate WRs.

They shouldn't have been able to put up that many points on us. JGs fault. He couldn't cover the slant.

I certainly hope he is the future. Salter looks legit, too. Who knows. It would be nice to see bailey get some snaps just to at least see what we have in him and kick start his progress.

Was JG covering their wr that had 140 yards?

My only point there is that’s the trending belief that Bailey is the future. But rank alone coming out of Hs doesn’t always mean the most talented in a room full of qbs you weren’t even competing against. He’s had ONE opportunity to prove he deserved his rank at the opening and he placed 11 out of 12 when the talent was equaled out across the board. There’s a real possibility that’s he’s been beaten out in that room.

I think people are underestimating the possibility that Pruitt just likes JG. There ARE more talented qbs in that room but none more experienced.
Maurer completes 50 percent of his passes and throws more interceptions than touchdowns.....so far.

We make some 3rd downs then SC would have less opportunities on offense. SC had a huge margin in time of possession in the first half. I’m not sure what is was for the complete game. Do you understand how that works?

And if our defense performs well all game then SC has 10 points and the game isnt close. Spin it anyway you want.

What I stated is not spin and has been discussed for decades. Ever heard of defenses getting tired because their team’s offense cannot convert 3rd downs ? Not spin but generally is known to be fact for thousands of football games over the years.

See my recent post. Defenders of JG need to educate yourself how a breakdown on offense (Qb)
has a negative impact on Defense.

So, you are blaming our defensive woes on JG? Get real. He played an average game and we escaped with the W. The defensive woes are not on JG, so you can take your arrogant comments and ...

I’ve said this before and I’ll keep going back to the point. He completed 54% of his passes in games he was prepared as a starter. JG completed 59% last year. Bo Nix was at 57%. Which means JG was only 5% better and Bo was only 3% better. When you’re fair in the comparison it shows he was right where he should be as a freshman and not far behind our 4th year starter with very little preparation. To me, that’s inspiring as I’d think it should’ve been to everyone. Then taken into consideration that he wasn’t thrown in until murderous row only makes it that much more impressive.

4 of his 5 ints were out of his control. I’m not going to go back through them but he could’ve just as easily only had 1 int as he did 5. Before you throw up “near” ints 1) most of those were games JG was prepared as the starter and 2) JG had just as many

I dont think Pruitt starts JG because he "likes" him more. That's pure stupid
🤔. Don’t think it happens? It happens all the time. Do you REALLY think Fromm was more talented than Justin Fields? I mean..... Kirby makes millions too. How many people, coaches, players do you think agree with his evaluation of qbs?

Not arrogant. It’s just an understanding of the game and how a team’s deficiencies (qb) can have a negative impact on the team on the other side of the ball. This viewed is shared by many who watch football for a number of years, not just me.

JG can affect the defense in 2 ways..... Killing drives, forcing the D back onto the field is the first way. Tennessee suffered from this many times in the past. The offense goes 3 and out or worse throws a pick on the second play of the drive and the defense has to go back to work with no rest.
Secondly, if the offense puts up a ton of points (the fastest way to do that is through the air) then this fundamentally changes what the opposing team has to do on offense (pass the ball more than they want to) which makes them one dimensional and easier to defend, making the defenses job easier and leading to more pass rushes, sacks and interceptions.

I didn't say UGA wasn't better. They are still both SEC teams and the performance from JG would have been a career game for BM.
That's dumb by your own proof. BM had more yards against one of the best, most talented D's in college football IN A HALF than JG had against this particular USCe D.

Maurer was nowhere near good enough to beat UGA. His game was and maybe even is limited by lack of development and experience. Yet the things he was prepared to do... he did very well and better than anything we've seen from JG against a top tier opponent.

I don't know what it will take to force Pruitt's hand again. But the same basic weakness that you and Pulaski deny exists... once again showed up this past Saturday. There are several reasons a QB throws high. One of the most common is when they attempt to rush through a throwing motion. One of the more common reasons a QB throws behind a breaking receiver is a late decision.

It appears that the coaches HAVE recognized that weakness you've denied ever existed and have tried to coach him up. There are still problems and they will cost UT games if they cannot correct him or else won't replace him. (That's not to say others don't also have problems that will cost the O). UT needs MUCH better play from the QB position regardless of who it is... than what JG did vs USCe. And... it has to be consistent.

All that said, JG's TD to #5 might have been his best throw as a Vol. Perfect read. Perfect ball placement. Perfect timing.
