Year 4 ... Same Old JG

Completion % isn’t the important part. It’s conversions. He can be 65% on third behind the line to gain. He’s known for throwing behind the sticks and not converting. That’s why that stat is “mind blowing” because it “suggests” conversions although it’s anything but. Which also explains your feeling that he wasn’t as good as that says he was.
...Yet we were 3rd in the conference in conversions last year. JG is just one of those guys who looks great at times but about 5 or 6 times a game seems to miss a gimme.

Oh......NOW you want include rushing stats now that JG got one?! So NOW you’re willing to admit that Maurer scored 4 tds last season? Gtfoh!

JG was good on first and second down dude. But what you don’t realize is qb B could’ve beaten us with a 33% accuracy rate by simply converting on third.

Third down is called “money” down for a reason. If your qb chokes on “money” down you lose. If he doesn’t you win. It’s as simple as that and should show you that stats DO NOT tell the story. In fact, leaning on stats is the equivalent of ONLY reading the last 10 pages of a book.
JG has historically been good on 3rd down...

I have discussed passing when we were talking about passing. I never said he did not have a couple of rushing tds. He wasn't good passing the ball.

JG was great on third last year, Its only game one. Still 60% with a td and no turnovers with his third down struggles.

And why bring BM up? He isn't the subject.

But since you want to go there this "bad" game would be a career game for BM.
Sorry buddy but no. This wouldn’t be a career game for BM. 259 yards and 2 tds vs the #3 team in the country IS at the moment.

And I brought him up because of how quick you were to bring up JGs rushing td while You’ve avoided it like the plague when criticizing BM.

I could be wrong overall but I feel that way for a reason and I’m not alone. Subliminally we remember everything we see. So when we get the “feeling” that a stat is wrong it’s because of the details surrounding that history that we can’t recall off the top of our heads.

No offense to maurer but there is a good chance he throws a pick or two if he played in that game instead. With the way our defense played at times, we simply can't have that.
Just to play devil's advocate Maurer might have thrown INT's if played, and he might have also kept drives going, and created explosives play. There is no reward without risk sometimes. JMO opinion, based on last years showing, TN carries a little more swagger and explosiveness with Maurer, but again you got to weigh risk vs. reward. With that said, we will never win a shootout, and we rely on our D way too much to expect to hold offenses for a whole game. Saturday, we saw this after half time adjustments made, and SC was moving the ball almost at will. JG may never throw to INT but defenses know that if they play the back-end coverage well then JG will take the sack or throw it away.

I was shocked too....JG played decent...still is inaccurate and inconsistent same as high school...but he doesnt put up decent stats....it may not keep us in games with better opponents but that doesn't seem to matter to fans...

I think that's because JG is just streaky. He'll have drives where he converts 3 or 4 1st downs followed by a couple of 3 and outs.

People saying JG is the best of what we have
..we really dont know....CJP is a play it safe no turnover coach...and will use that till it stops getting wins...so JG may or may not be the best on the roster but he is the best at CJP gameplan....BM is more risk vs reward......so itll be JG till it isnt

If u idiots can’t see that JGs decision making is dramatically better you don’t know football. He made Almost all the right decisions on where to throw the ball .. did he threw and w too much zip sometimes yes. He still needs to work on it. But make no mistake he is our best option
I was in the stadium Saturday night and could see the whole field. He missed some throws he shouldn't have but I can't remember a single ball where when he let it go It looked like a bad decision.

Tennessee offensive football is SO HARD to watch with JG at QB. Every time Tennessee gets the ball I feel virtually hopeless. Tennessee has very good players at most every position on offense yet we struggle game after game to score or even sustain a drive over 10-20 yards. JG will NEVER lead this Tennessee team to the top echelon of the SEC East even if he had 5 star players at every position.

To my point, with less than 2 minutes to go in the first half Tennessee gets the ball at the SC 44 yard line and I know from watching the past 3 years of JG ball that Tennessee will fail to score. Sure enough, 1st down ... JG throws behind a wide open back on a 8 YARD pass, INCOMPLETE. 2nd down ... Gray runs for 4 yards. 3rd down ... JG drops back to pass, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 seconds go by as JG stares down a covered receiver and then gets tackled for a loss. 4th down ... Tennessee punts AGAIN!

Gawd ... how much longer are we going have to watch this same scenario play out? Like everything else this year ... it's a LOST YEAR so why on earth don't we play Harrison and let him get some valuable experience and learn about SEC game speed. The best we can hope for with JG is 5-5 or 6-4 at best. If we don't replace JG this year we will be looking at 5th FRICKEN YEAR with JG at QB. GEEZ !!!
It is what it is. Don’t sweat it.

That game he was 50% passing with as many turnovers as tds. He was also responsible for only one more td for us than he gave up directly to them.

This game was better.

A game with 60% passing, no turnovers, and a SEC win would definitely be a career highlight for BM.

I always thought he made good choices....checked down a little much for me..its how far away fro. His intended targets his passes end up is the problem

No offense but compare the games if SC defense end up top 5 and JG is a true freshman. Otherwise you cant compare fairly

Probably need a couple more weeks of route running too. There 2 misses to Keyton and one to Jones where it didn't look to me like they ended up where JG thought they were going to.

It is the only argument he has. He wants a true Fr that no one believes was ready to be the comparison standard... because to compare him to any other standard reveals the truth.
