The Official #16 Tennessee @ South Carolina Game Thread, 7:30 PM ET, SEC Network

Pulaski, you make me laugh. A lot. Your endless faith in JG is almost refreshing in its childlike innocence.
I don't have endless faith in JG and you've never seen me post anything as such. I have faith in Pruitt who keeps running him out there. The NegaVols love to spew pure BS and hyperbole when it comes to JG and I call them on it. One poster said he misses throws high or underthrown 9 out of 10 throws, several have said that at least 3 or more of the overthrows would have resulted as TDs, one yahoo said we "would" have scored 56 on them with just "decent" QB play. You may agree with all of that, I don't and it's as simple as that. I know this, I was a bunch more comfortable with JG out there in the 4th quarter of a tie game than I would have been with any of our backups or 7-8 other guys playing QB1 in this league.

If Pruitt is unable, in his third season, to field a QB who is consistently able to at least throw an on target ball, then that is on Pruitt.

As I have said multiple times, JG seems like a tough, honorable kid. He is just a lousy SEC QB. His numbers end up looking decent, thanks to YAC and some amazing acrobatics by WRs. For example, on our first TD drive, the one handed catch (which was awesome) was an overthrow, and the desperation shove at Gray was the ugliest thing I’ve seen in awhile, it Gray made lemonade out of it.

For you, those are simply two completions for yardage.

Get it?

Pretty sure they've been keeping those same type of passes as completions over the years and I've never seen them put a description of how the yards were gained on the stat page. If we aren't going to count great catches and short passes that turned into gains then we've got a bunch of QBs that are going to lose a ton of stats historically, it'll probably cut Peyton and Brady's stats in half. JG literally only missed on 5-6 throws last night and you guys act like he played like Worley bird of years past.

He just happened to lead the winning drive in every one of the wins, must just be coincidence.

Better play by him earlier wouldn’t have left the game to final drives. He basically handed to ball off vs Indiana & Miss St. Defense won the Ky game despite his fumble to allow Ky a final chance.

It’s not all on him, Pulaski. The OC seems hellbend on making JG something he’s not.

He was 13-15 for 221 yards with 3 TDs and 0 ints in a little over 4 full quarters in the 2 games you mentioned he didn't do much in. How in the hell do you not give JG credit for exceptional QB play in those 2 games? I think it's stupid to say he didn't do anything good there. Our starting QB for those same 2 games in a little under 4 quarters was 11-23 for 153 with 0 TDs and 2 ints, seems like that is what you are wanting which is ridiculous to me.

Like the fireman who is also the arsonist. We are good enough with JG to barely beat bad-average teams. Just like we did down the stretch last year. Just like we did yesterday. No one is arguing that.

With JG under center, you absolutely run the ball. Did you not understand my post?

With a serviceable QB, no way USC stacks the box. If they do, burn the hell out of them.

JG limits us to such a basic passing game, the defense doesn’t respect it, and they are able to stack the box.

I don't care if you have Peyton behind center with Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens out wide and Tony Gonzalez at TE. 3rd and forever on your side of the field with the lead late in the game, you run the ball 10/10 times. And every defense would/should stack the box in that situation as well.

What are they arguing about then? If saying he simply sucks that's fine but shut up about it already, it's not his fault Pruitt keeps running him out there. I say he doesn't suck, he has proven he can win vs the teams we're supposed to beat and nobody knows what is going to happen vs the big3 this year. Would you really go into the locker room and tell the team, guys we can beat everybody we're supposed to with JG currently but we think we're going to go with a backup because we feel that with less experience and far worse stats the backup QB gives us the best chance to beat GA, Alabama or Florida this season. I wonder why Fulmer didn't try that with Peyton his Sr year before the Florida game?

I watched both games. He was horrible vs Indiana. Gray won the game and MVP for HIS performance. Against Miss St, he did hit two key passes in the flat, one to Jordan and one to Bird, that He took 40 yds to the house. Otherwise Tennessee stayed in the ground pretty much of the second half after Mauer got hurt.

Come on folks, it was the first game, we beat Muschamp again and this team has dealt with varying levels of Covid quarantines. JG had very little practice time because of that to establish a rapport with his receivers. Yes he made mistakes, but nothing that isn't correctable. He had some good moments as well. Some of the keys to the game, should have went for it on 4th and 1 instead of kicking a 47 yd FG. Should have ran the ball the 4th quarter and controlled the clock and game, thats not on JG, thats on Cheney.

Once again, arguing that those numbers are not significant is weak. You guys don't give the kid credit even when he plays near perfect. Pathetic I think.

I think it's important to note JG didn't play bad vs one of the better defenses we're likely to face this year. That itself is encouraging. He didn't play great either, but given last year's struggles, I fail to see how people can be so critical of Saturday's game.

First game of the year, significantly less prep time due to COVID. I'm not saying he will be great this year or anything, but I think you have to view this game as encouraging.

I got to watch the exciting dramatic competitive close game on a streaming YouTube channel that was great quality while rolling silverware at Texas Roadhouse.

Swiss Army Knife Scoring for the Volunteers

A great pick six and stiff arm after the lucky bounce, Guarantano looking like Dobbs leaping to score the TD, Gray looking like Kamara and a all too easy running TD because Gamecocks playing like college football is 2 hands touch, and Guarantano throwing a great pass to Palmer for the throwing touchdown.

31-27
The Volunteers had to win a dramatic competitive close game in the 4th and they did.

I’m excited to see Guarantano show that he has become a great QB which I expect happens after years of growing pains including the fiasco at Alabama, Volunteers RB Gray running this season including vs the heavyweights Alabama, Georgia also a likely great Auburn team, etc.

I really didn’t expect Guarantano’s celebration after the great throwing td, and was highly entertaining.

The Volunteers continue to play Rock Star Football.
They can make a lot of noise this season.

Also I’m extremely happy after years of growing pains including he could just easily quit after the Alabama fiasco that JG had what I’m saying is a great Game and a reason to celebrate after a great throwing TD, and got to show he’s better for this game because he easily ran and leaped to score a running TD.
He didn’t do anything terrible that made it more likely the Gamecocks would win the competitive dramatic close game.

Adversity reveals character and Guarantano has shown to be a tenacious tough player, and a champion because he didnt quit during the growing pains which have been heavyweight growing pains including the At Alabama fiasco.

His toughness and tenacity isn’t fruitless be the got to celebrate in South Carolina what was a great game for him for the reasons I stated.

The measuring stick games for has he become a great QB are At Auburn a very likely great team, the juggernaut Alabama , the complete great team Georgia, and Florida that does have a talented effective QB Trask and I expect a competitive close game with Guarantano having to play better than Trask for the Bright Orange Volunteers to defeat the damn Gators.

From Outkick:

"....fifth year senior Jarrett Guarantano continues to be a completely erratic quarterback. Guarantano can make every throw a top college quarterback needs to make, but he can also make every throw that gets a quarterback in college football benched. And it now appears he’s going to do it at Tennessee for a fourth straight year. "

"The Vols will be good enough to beat just about anyone and also bad enough to lose to just about anyone.
Which will make 2020 an absolute roller coaster once again with Guarantano managing the controls."

We're ranked 2nd to last in 3rd down conversions at 9%. Nit pick all you want at the anology I used but let that sink in.
