Chris Low: Update on coaching search

I'm actually getting a little excited about a Kiffin staff. Recruiting is a MUST at Tennessee, and I think that Kiffin (plus Orgeron?) would have a real step-up on some of the other candidates.

The pieces of the puzzle just seem to be fitting together, and I would be quite surprised if we don't get the announcement of a quality coaching staff in a week or two.

I'd still prefer Peterson or Leach.

It's funny how one loss, although a BAD one, has made Leach a less attractive hire all of the sudden. He is still beating more-talented teams with players rejected by UT-A and OU.

The major upside to Kiffin is a Tennessee Volunteer Football coach has to be extremely skilled at and driven about recruiting. More than anything, that is Kiffen's strong suit.

After the OU game, the Texas game appears to have been a fluke. Outside this season, Leach had no others worth mentioning. When he took that whipping, it turned the 'flavor of the month' rotten.

Kiffin will be great. He fits what UT needs.

The sooner the better so we can hopefully pull back to recruits and land some new ones. ESPECIALLY DTs

I was a Gruden guy all along but if he has said he wants no part of it then so be it.

I think I can get fired up at a Kiffen choice. Young, energetic, head coach in NFL, good recruiter.

I wouldn't hold the raiders job against him either. Seems Al Davis changes coaches more than he changes his underwear.

His knock is lack of head coaching experience as a whole but he's come from solid programs...has a solid background, and has that youthful energy that's very much needed at this level. I think he's very appealing and has a lot to get excited about. Does that translate into wins? We'll see.

If we don't get Kiffin, however, I gotta go with Peterson. That guy has done so much at Boise St. In 3 years there he's gone 34-3. 34-3 at Boise St!

That's very..........very impressive.

In all honesty I wouldn't be mad if they hired Peterson over Kiffin. I'd take Peterson in a heart beat. He made me a believer when he absolutely throttled an Oklahoma team in the Fiesta Bowl.

That was an absolutely thing of beauty to watch. I want a coach that will pull out all the stops to win a ball game. He also seems to have class and integrity.

I think I've sat here and talked myself into Peterson.

GO PETERSON!!!! Kiffin will be a fine alternative however.

I say again...34-3 at Boise State!

Yeah, really throttled OU. They beat a team playing a converted WR at QB with a hook and ladder at the end of regulation and a Statue of Liberty in overtime. Just killed them. If DJ Wolfe weren't the dumbest player in the history of college football, nobody would know who the hell Chris Peterson is.

His predecessor, Dan Hawkins, was 45-7 in his last four seasons.

We'll agree to disagree. I'd say 34-3 does wonders for getting out one's name.

What coach has done better with equal or less talent the last three years?

Name him. I'll be waiting.

Yes, and Mr.Hawkins is 12-21 at Colorado.

I will concede that perhaps Peterson would experience the same fate at Tennessee.

It's a crap shoot either way I guess.

I like his numbers though and I like how he beat Oklahoma on a big stage...no matter what the situation.

I know full well this has been hashed endless amounts of times but I don't get to participate all the time so comparing all the potential candidates I rack 'em like this:

1. Gruden
2. Cowher
3. Kiffin
4. Davis
5. Peterson
6. The rest can fight it out...

Bill Stewart beat a better Oklahoma team in the Fiesta Bowl last year. Should we call West Virginia and ask permission to talk to him?

Other than the Sooners, who has he faced that had superior talent?

Talent vs. talent OU should have blown out BS. The fact that he won the game on a "trick play" as you always like to point out is irrelevant.
The fact is he got his team up for the game and went in with the right game plan. The "trick play" only sealed the deal.

Dan Hawkins started coaching at BS one year before peterson became the OC there, and by the looks of his current record a CU, Dan hawkins is not that great of a coach.

I would not be disappointed if Peterson was hired at UT.

Think about these two sentences.

How'd he do against that powerhouse Washington team last year? How brilliantly prepared did he have Boise for that East Carolina juggernaut in their bowl last year?

OU played garbage football for about 50 minutes and still would have won if not for about 5 miracles.

Think about these two sentences.
That's far too logical. Actually, the hiring of Peterson would have some benefits for me. I could go see games in all the stadiums around college football I've missed while attending Tennessee games religiously.

I think in retrospect he wishes he'd called more statue of liberty plays. They are the foundation of success.

I hear there is some sort of smurf field up in Idaho. You should hit that up.

Name anyone else who gets a steady diet of Idaho, Utah State, New Mexico State, San Jose State, et al every year.

All of these teams get a steady dose of each other and none of the rest are 34-3. You gotta give the guy his props. Crap, what's he supposed to do? He plays the teams they give him and he's 34-3.

You guys want to rail the dude because he lost 3 games? Talk about accentuating the negative.

I've still not heard anyone give me a name of any coach that's done as well with equal or less talent and you're not going to be able to because nobody else has done it.

All you can ask a guy is to win the games that he's given. He's won 92% of his games the last three years. Nobody is better. Nobody.

Brian Kelly.

He is about to win the Big East (BCS conference), and play in a BCS Bowl in his second year as head coach for Cincinnati
