Big Ten now playing

So from what I read they are looking at an 8 game schedule and could still be considered for CFP. Is that a fair deal for SEC, ACC, & Big 12 teams?

Eh... I definitely see what you're saying and understand your point, but it's worth noting that the Big XII/Big Ten/Pac-12 have been playing 9-game conference slates for years in addition (typically) to one major P5 OOC matchup. Even in this maladjusted year, the ACC is slated to play 11 (10 + 1 OOC) while the Big XII plays 10 (9 + 1 OOC); until the P5 gets together and mandates a "uniform" schedule (X conference, Y P5), there's just no way to keep everything equal.

Even then, it's pretty easy to argue that 9 SEC games is tougher than 9 Pac-12 games. If the winner of the Big Ten goes undefeated, I see no reason to exclude that team from the playoff unless you have at least one team from the other three conferences that looks demonstrably superior (with no way to compare the P5 conferences to one another) boasting one or more losses.

Am I supposed to know who Sir Yacht is?

@95 Vol Alum He's been beating the "Big Ten will be changing course and announcing a season very soon" drum since a few days after they postponed. A lot of people are hating on him, largely because the specifics he's alleged haven't exactly come to fruition, but he's been generally correct about a lot of things and the fact remains that he was the only guy claiming this was a possibility in the middle of August.

Kudos to Nebraska and OSU for making this happen... Nebraska for their lawsuit and outspokenness... Ohio State for parent protest in Chicago and Columbus, and Justin Fields 302,000 "Let us play petition. Of course Trump and Harbaugh helped a little also..... but without those two, probably no season. The remainder were basically "wussies".

Well well look who's following who now! BIG10 follows the SEC, ACC, and BIG12 in playing football this season. Good grief that must butthurt at least 50 million people above the Mason Dixon line, you know like when Bama got their first Heisman winner in Mark Engram a few years ago, surely Michigan or OSU had a DB twice better than anyone in the SEC.

Here's copy/paste chunks from the release that detail the medical protocols involved now. It doesn't specify which form of daily testing is involved.

• The Big Ten will require student-athletes, coaches, trainers and other individuals that are on the field for all practices and games to undergo daily antigen testing. Test results must be completed and recorded prior to each practice or game. Student-athletes who test positive for the coronavirus through point of contact (POC) daily testing would require a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to confirm the result of the POC test.

• Each institution will designate a Chief Infection Officer (CInO) who will oversee the collection and reporting of data for the Big Ten Conference. Team test positivity rate and population positivity rate thresholds will be used to determine recommendations for continuing practice and competition.

• All COVID-19 positive student-athletes will have to undergo comprehensive cardiac testing to include labs and biomarkers, ECG, Echocardiogram and a Cardiac MRI. Following cardiac evaluation, student-athletes must receive clearance from a cardiologist designated by the university for the primary purpose of cardiac clearance for COVID-19 positive student-athletes. The earliest a student-athlete can return to game competition is 21 days following a COVID-19 positive diagnosis.

In addition to the medical protocols approved, the 14 Big Ten institutions will establish a cardiac registry in an effort to examine the effects on COVID-19 positive student-athletes. The registry and associated data will attempt to answer many of the unknowns regarding the cardiac manifestations in COVID-19 positive elite athletes.

• The Big Ten Conference will use data provided by each Chief Infection Officer (CInO) to make decisions about the continuation of practice and competition, as determined by team positivity rate and population positivity rate, based on a seven-day rolling average:
  • Team positivity rate (number of positive tests divided by total number of tests administered):
    • Green 0-2%
    • Orange 2-5%
    • Red >5%
  • Population positivity rate (number of positive individuals divided by total population at risk):
    • Green 0-3.5%
    • Orange 3.5-7.5%
    • Red >7.5%
Decisions to alter or halt practice and competition will be based on the following scenarios:
  • Green/Green and Green/Orange: Team continues with normal practice and competition.
  • Orange/Orange and Orange/Red: Team must proceed with caution and enhance COVID-19 prevention (alter practice and meeting schedule, consider viability of continuing with scheduled competition).
  • Red/Red: Team must stop regular practice and competition for a minimum of seven days and reassess metrics until improved.
The daily testing will begin by September 30, 2020.

These protocols seem restrictive enough to scrub their season anyway.

Cue up this song and advise them that the Most Powerful 3 conferences don't give a fig what they do.

Sound right, like it ir not OSU is a top 5 team. Assuming they go undefeatedand play Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, any playoff without them, should have an asterisk.

Just heard the Big 10 conference will start back with an 8 game schedule starting 24 Oct. Sounds late to me to get that many games in. That would mean they wouldn't finish season near Christmas time. Will add some Big 10 games in around their starting time.

Respect the heck out of Justin Fields.... He could have easily opted out but got over 301,000 petitions to play. Said he would give an arm and leg to play to play on a team like this, even though 1st round picks Wyatt Davis, and Shawn Wade opted out, because of BIG10 dragginf their feet.
