Protective measures such as masks, if used properly, definitively do work. These mouth breathers with the masks protecting their chin is not effective.
Really? Cite your proof. And you can't use anecdotes because there are about as many places that saw case counts go up after mask mandates as saw them go down. I've seen the articles and if you take the time to follow the references back to the actual "studies" then you invariably see studies of masks on viruses other than Covid-19 and situations other than non-symptomatic spreaders. We have heard conjecture for a long time that non-symptomatic people spread the virus and at least some at a high degree of contagiousness. The only proof anyone has pointed me to points to three anecdotes from around the world with one being purely circumstantial and another now repudiated.
My close family member has walked into lots of of covid positive rooms and had some of those patients die. They were masked up and never had any symptoms or positive tests.
And 80% of the people on the Diamond Princess in close contact with both symptomatic and asymptomatic people for a couple of weeks... never had symptoms or contracted the virus. A significant percentage of the population has natural immunity or immunity acquired by contact with a different Coronavirus.
BTW, that's not the reason we've been given for wearing masks or why people are at each other's throats. The justification is that it prevents spread to others. You have to ask yourself what magic occurs between inhale and exhale that will not prevent you from being infected but will protect others from being infected by you. My suspicion is that they knew that people would get sick even if they wore masks and once that started happening people would stop listening or wearing them. You may think that's a good tactic... but our "officials" do NOT have the right to lie to us.
Drumpf is criticized for sitting on his hands and refusing to lead. Not the virus itself.
Hardly. Trump's biggest failures have been listening to people like Fauci and letting the media box him in. And you would be wise not to listen to the left wing media in the midst of an election.
The biggest failures here have been in the national health offices. There was a choice. Spend resources on protecting the vulnerable and educating the public or doing the wholly unscientific things that have been done. Again, Trump's failure has been in listening to people who gave horrible advice.
A rapid result test has been available for weeks. I posted an article by a Harvard researcher who said that the virus could be defeated in 3 weeks using it. It enables someone to self-test and isolate themselves BEFORE they become contagious. But it was never deployed. There is no FDA "pathway" to approve it... and apparently our top health officials didn't think it was as good of an option as waiting on expensive vaccines.
Technology exists and is readily available for purifying HVAC recycled air. It kills the virus before it can make anyone ill. Bet you didn't know that, did you? That is a FAR more effective answer than masks which even if as effective as the studies that are pointed to... are only about 60% effective if worn correctly.
Shelter in place didn't work? Look at tourist areas, as soon as they opened up to tourists their positive numbers exploded. You can't put numbers on crimes that guns deter or the amount of positive test shelter in place prevented.
No. Shelter in place did NOT work. What exploded was testing. NYC is the BEST test case for "shelter in place". It failed... and failed badly.
Since we came out of that ridiculous strategy "positives" have gone up but severe cases and deaths have come down. Testing was limited to those with symptoms early on. Studies were conducted months ago showing that FAR more people were getting the virus with mild or no symptoms than were being confirmed. A Stanford study of a CA county showed 50:1 or more. A Colorado rural county showed a 14:1 ratio of cases to confirmed cases. Even now, CDC has but is not releasing data on how many cases are very mild or non-symptomatic. When they produced their first IFR estimate, they assumed at least 10 times more cases than those confirmed by testing after the media had told us for months that the virus was 10 times more deadly than CDC's scientific estimate showed it to be.
