I should state that my kids are in North Carolina and not Tennessee. Also, keeping a 9yr olds attention span for almost 8 hrs on a computer is a lot to ask. On top of that there is little interaction. So.... yeah.

I’m sure it varies teacher to teacher.
My daughter is learning virtually this year and is a sophomore. She likes two of her classes but in Chemistry the video quality is pretty poor, so we have to help her.

I want to go to the Maryville vs Alcoa game on Friday. Those of you who know area fb, what do I need to know? Where do I park? What time should I plan to get there to reasonably avoid traffic and parking problems? What else? Game starts at 7:30.
They may have limited seating. They do at Seymour, so you might want to check to be sure.

Last week I was poking around SC fan sites and, as was the case leading up to fall camp by analysts outside of SC, their fans seem to have coalesced around the consensus that they’re not going to have much of an offense. They correctly are concerned about their offensive line, one of these least talented group of linemen in the entire conference. They’re concerned about not having a single proven running back and they’re very much down on their receiving corp. They’re not sure they even have a quarterback which I agree with. Ryan and Luke would be starting out in year one of Bobo’s system so that is a huge disadvantage and Collin who came with Bobo from CSU is not an SEC QB. There’s not a single other team in the SEC where Collin could get on the field, not even Vanderbilt. Collin’s one claim to playing time is that he sort of knows Bobo’s system. jmo.

Pruitt returns a ton of production on his defense. These are guys who have proven that they know how to play in his defense, they know the right way to do things, and they have developed a pretty good understanding of why they need to play the way Pruitt and Company teach. I don’t think missing some practices is going to be as big a deal as some SC fans think it might be for us. It makes a whole lot more difference if you are missing practice with a lot of young guys who don’t know anything yet or if you’re trying to install a new system in that year. We’re doing neither. By some measures we’re returning 18 starters on both sides of the ball so it’s obviously not exactly the same.

We’re returning at least 10 offensive linemen who already know our system and they’re one of the top 2 most talented groups at that position in the entire conference. We return our top 2 running backs, and Brandon Johnson and Josh Palmer are 2 returning guys with lots of starting experience. We have a lot of young talent to supplement those guys at the receiver position. I think TE will be by committee and I think we’ll be better at QB, while SC will likely struggle at QB for many of the same reasons we did last year.

SC’s pass defense was 12th in the conference last year and having lost the interior of their defensive line I’m not expecting them to be world beaters at stopping the run this year, not right out of the gate, and most especially not against our offensive line. Tracy Rocker said in a recent media appearance that the biggest issue with their defensive line right now is they are having to coach effort so in rebuilding that unit they are on first base.

As a bonus, Bill Connelly of SP+ fame, on September 1st downgraded the SC offense from #79 to #81, I think after 2 of their better candidates for WR elected to opt out of the 2020 season. And while Gibbs disappointed many here, myself included, his decision didn’t have the same effect on us. In fact Connelly bump our offense up a few notches, from #56 to #50. Connelly also bumped up our defense to now 6th best in the nation.

It’s just my opinion but I continue to think Florida will struggle this year. I think Auburn will struggle on offense. I think LSU is going to crash this year. I’m not sold on A&M or Kentucky. Connelly dropped the Alabama defense to #19, 8th best in the conference. I think Georgia will likely struggle on offense for all the obvious reasons. Most of all I think our offense will likely turn out to be underrated coming into kickoff, owing mostly to the fact that we have continuity at the offensive coordinator position, something a number of our opponents are lacking. Even with the loss of practice time for some of our guys, I think we have enough returning experience to take care of the first couple of cupcakes on our schedule, South Carolina and Missouri, and we should be in pretty good shape by the time we head into Athens on 10/10. jmo.
Too long, but I read every word of it! Great points on all of it. I’m sold!!

We are going 9-1!!!

i just read Mel Kipers's ESPN+ article about prospects he'll be looking at in this weekend's games. He said Ryan Johnson is a "draftable" guard for GT as a grad transfer from UT.

Thoughts?

Tennessee's luck right. This guy will be all american this year. lol
Wouldn’t have played here. This is more ā€œTennessee’s luckā€ circa Nate Peterman.

My two oldest kids are 10 and 8, and I have been impressed with their virtual experience. I overheard my oldest’s teacher do a segment on the Socratic method, and she muted herself and had students lead and call on others for questions. I probably did a little of that in school, but it reminded me of law school.

It just depends on the district and teacher, but virtual is certainly more difficult than in-person.

I think Mel Kiper is not very good at his job.

Y’all are cute thinking Fulmer and Pruitt are going to let us be at a disadvantage to UGA and Bama because we have to follow Knox County rules. I’m not saying they are cutting corners but colleges are exempt from certain requirements i.e. why they were able to practice when high schools were not.

I still think there's definitely going to be some turnover within Tennessee's class — with 26 commitments and a handful of needs left to address, something obviously has to give — but I'm not sure the Vols really have figured out exactly where it's going to come from. There always could be some unintended or unexpected turnover, too, especially if prospects are able to resume taking visits at some point. And I think they would like to see film of as many people as possible from this season before making any final decisions on parting ways with anyone, if it comes to that.
I almost always say it will be somewhere pretty close to 25, and that's the case again this year. Tennessee might have the flexibility to go slightly higher than 25 if it wants. But with the transfer portal being a source of legitimate talent every year now, and with a one-time transfer exception for immediate eligibility potentially on the way next year, will the Vols want to leave a spot or two open in case they want to be in the running for any transfer that might pique their interest? I think that's usually a good idea, so depending on how they choose to approach that, I could see them going with 25 or maybe slightly above 25, if they choose not to worry as much about saving room for transfers.

Idk man. Hadn't heard about UGA and Bama having the problems we have regarding all this covid stuff. I need a @Atlanta VOL drive-by to confirm

Bummer. Thanks for that info. What about other Maryville games?
It’ll honestly be tough to get into any high school game this year unless you’re a parent of a player, cheerleader, or band member. I’m actually working the Bearden-Maryville game next week. I would probably call the host school the week before and ask when tickets go on sale. Most of the better matchups will be sold out before Friday.

From what Rob Lewis said today Knox Co guidelines and contact tracing has us limited. He said JP was pulling his hair out cause schools like Bama and UGA aren’t under the same requirements. They test people who’s been in contact but from what I understood they don’t have the 14 day quarantine rules we do. I came in late to the segment but that’s basically the gist.

Someone can check out the podcast to confirm.

They probably just aren’t being forward with it to the media. The media is only getting pics and video of what the AD sends them so they can control the narrative.

Tide is turning on woke corporate virtual signaling. It's just funny to imagine the boardrooms where the suits concoct these awful ideas. And also funny to think about most of the minions who have to actually put him in the game knew right away it was a bad idea but weren't in a position to rock the boat.

How many companies have sunk over the years because decisions were made by out of touch executives who don't tolerate/invite criticism and because employees who know better are afraid to speak up?

I know many companies are "woke" now but I don't believe that always represents a majority of their beliefs internally. Those decisions just get made by people who have final say and then they are shocked when they don't work out...and if the company goes under or they get fired, well, the golden parachute awaits to another C-level position at another company they can ruin.
