This place is so dead for a Labor Day, kinda sad. So, I'm going to liven it up with "Dog's Labor Day Hot Takes"

DHT #1 Shrout enters the USC game after halftime, throws 3 TDs to lead to a Vols comeback victory and becomes the starter for Game 2.

DHT #2 Neil Patrick Harris' Barney Stinson is the funniest sit-com character in the last 15 years. How I Met Your Mother is a slightly above average sit-com, but Barney carries it

DHT #3 J. Mashack, 4 star, SG/SF out of California commits to UT Basketball and Barnes, tomorrow

Auburn has also had much more recent success beating ranked teams than Tennessee. It probably speaks to recruits when they see Auburn handing Alabama an L every now and then or beating Oregon on a neutral site to start the season. Once Tennessee starts winning a few of those games, we'll see even more recruits start picking us.

Malzahn is not a good coach.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they barely speak by UK first game of the season.

P5 game 3 days away! That is something.

I also just realized both ACC and B12 are playing this weekend?? And our pansy butts are sitting at home...? Wth
Everyone on this forum needs to be calling Bill Lee’s office and asking him what threshold is being used to determine positive PCR tests in labs across the state. We should be pushing him to make that data public and use the thresholds that are used in Europe. The freaking New York Times even ran a story about how 90% of positives are false positives or people who no longer have active infections. This is the metric that will be used to make decisions around increasing capacity in Neyland and if we keep testing the same way we are today then they’ll never increase capacity. It would be nice if @David Ubben would do his job and report on this as well. Instead, he just sits by while all his colleagues at the athletic push the anti-science fear mongering about myocarditis.

Well, he does know Bobo’s offense inside and out. Poor Hilinski is gonna end up buried on that depth chart since Luke Doty is so dynamic

I know he was surrounded by Colorado St talent, but 2/3 of his attempts vs SEC opponents were against terrible Arkansas.

The poor kid's cumulative stats vs SEC opponents:

15/34 (44% completion)
122 yards, 3.6 YPA!!
1 TD 0 INT
84 qbr!!! That is baaaaaaad. For reference, that is slightly below Sawyer Smith (UK) last year who completed 44% and had 2 TDs and 5 INTs in SEC play 😀😁😂🤣😃

2020 College Football Team Talent Composite

Florida barely ahead of us. 7th in SEC. We NEED top 10 classes.
2017 still dragging us down on paper. Wouldn't worry too much, as Pruitt looks to have 3 straight top-10 classes in order. Given the free year of eligibility, our paper talent may still appear down for 1 more year now, but it's immaterial as long as we keep pulling these Pruitt type classes.

There's something that appears amiss about that list. I'm not real sure what the issue is. The cover tallies don't match with the underlying rosters like they have in the past. For example our roster shows 39 blue chip players and Florida's roster shows 38 blue chip players. The cover tally suggests we only have 34 blue chippers while it gives Florida credit for 37. I'm pretty sure it's not transfers because Florida has more blue chip transfers than we do.

I don't think they have finished updating yet but if they are then if you look at our 2019 roster talent and compare to what they show us having for 2020 they're saying we have a less talented roster this year than last by a noticeable margin. Even a blind man would know that is a damn lie. jmo.

Try thinking about it like this. This past year we signed the best class (without transfers) that we have signed in the last 5 years, our first top 10 class since 2015, 6 years ago, and we have less talent this year than last? Really? I don't think so. jmo.

#2..last 15 years? May not even be in the top 10.

The only thing keeping us from beating them like the bottom dweller team they are is our QB position. JG needs to have turned a new mental leaf. If not, gonna be a long game.
We've had the same close games with them since 2010. Last year was the first time in a decade we have beaten them by more than 3 points. That covers Simms, Worley, Bray, Dobbs, and now JG.

They are #21 in Team Talent, only 4 spots behind us. Though I think Pruitt is building separation there, they still aren't your dad's USCe. That's just the fact of all that "SEC!" crap. It has helped all the bottom dwellers.

I hope we come out blazing, but the way we keep coming off long breaks under Pruitt has me concerned he hasn't put the prep skills together just yet. WVU, Ga St, the first 3.5 quarters of Indiana. Hopefully this is where the tide turns and it clicks for him and the team.
The first two years has been spent teaching upperclassmen and freshmen the right way to do things. That has been a struggle. Add in the QB doing awesome in practice with game plans being made around that only to have to replan during the game. On the teams he had been coaching there were always talented upperclassmen that knew what to do. We have had everyone trying to learn discipline plus what to do when. Just as soon as most did the right thing at least one would mess up. Hopefully by now the mistakes will be few and far between.

Nice win for Dustin Johnson, but Paulina Gretzky is still his greatest victory. I actually thought, one of Paulina's uhhh (I'm going to be a good boy) melons (no, I'm not) was going to bust out of that shirt

NO....I don't want to be behind at halftime!

Franks was horrible. Why does Mullen not get credit for that?
Because Mullen showed up in 2018 and Franks went from 9 TD/8 INT the year before to 24 TD and 6 INT in 2018. 143 qbr. Went from .34 YPC to 3.18.

I don't think anyone wants to hear that answer, but there it is. I fuggin hate Mehlen, but he is a QB guru. Just like Pruitt is a secondary guru. Facts are facts. Hate and a measured sense of respect can go hand-in-hand.

So he is good at getting production out of a bad QB because he was still bad. 😁
