American war dead are "Losers and Suckers," per Trump

@37L1 .... I was referring to this tweet from Jennifer Griffin, who is a reporter for Fox News (FNC). Jeffrey Goldberg is the reporter for The Atlantic, who broke the story.
OK, I read the twitter string. Thanks for that.

He didn't disparage the dead at Aisne-Marne as The Atlantic reported but he did make remarks (at another time?) regarding Viet Nam that is just as bad.
"When the President spoke about the Vietnam War, he said, 'It was a stupid war. Anyone who went was a sucker'."

I read the source a few quotes from The Atlantic article. This former Trump admin official said, "The President would say things like that. He doesn't know why people join the military. He would muse, 'Why do they do it'?"

Apparently he was in a snit about something Macron had said and didn't want to drive to the cemetery. The whole thing is childish and a bad look.

Source: "The President was not in a good mood. Macron had said something that made him mad about American reliability and the need perhaps for a European army. He questioned why he had to go to two cemeteries. 'Why do I have to do two'?"

Well, if he had stopped at just calling the Vietnam War "a stupid war", I would agree with him. However, anyone who went to serve in Vietnam was not a "sucker". Many of the men who served didn't want to go either, but they were drafted and they came from poor families. Those men didn't have the option of taking deferments for education or in Trump's case - an absurd medical deferment. This was the spoiled rich kid in Trump coming to the forefront. He really is a very ugly person.

Just no. The mission commander/pilot in command is the person who makes the call and they are determined by standardized military requirements.

Macron and Merkel drove I believe. I read an article that pointed to Kelly calling off the motorcade as it was up to 2 hrs each way and with no air option for rapid egress they would not allow that.
I would have given the order to "GDAMNIT GET ME THERE". IMO that was an important event for the Military and the entire US. He just failed.

I don't think conservatives get how the press works. American freedom of the press is built upon unnamed sources. People need to be able to expose corruption and incompetence without fear of retribution.

The problem is complete bs is also based on unnamed sources and most journalist since day one have had it in for this president to an unprecedented level from day one.

So given how wrong journalist intentionally get stories with named sources wrong (a man died because trump said take hydroxychloroquine, Covington Catholic, Jacob Blake, etc), it’s to magically believe they gain some new level of integrity with their unnamed sources

Fox is the best! They're almost as big of an internal sh*tshow as the Trump administration.

How did they take from that, that fox confirmed it? Sounds like fox mentioned the Atlantic sorry. Not that they said “yep, this is how it happened!”

This guy can’t even tweet accurately about things that can be fact checked, but “believe the unnamed sources”

There is plenty other to pick from instead of picking this hill to die on. He may well have been glad he didn’t have to go. But people are on the record not frigging “anonymous sources” saying Trump didn’t make the call. You’re just being stubborn.

Jennifer Griffin of Fox News did confirm some key details of Jeffrey Goldberg's reporting in The Atlantic. Read her tweet.

I think it is more likely than not that Donald Trump referred to Vietnam War veterans as "suckers". I wish John Kelly would go on the record. It's becoming obvious that he was at least one of the sources for Jeffrey Goldberg's reporting in The Atlantic.

Did you happen to notice that the headline is in quotes?
I think the tweeter is making light of the fact that the headline is about Trump’s denial when their own reporter has confirmed the story through her own sources.

I get that. But still, it’s a quote; not an editor created headline.

The editor created headline is beneath “it’s a hoax.”

Tbh, I didn’t even notice the hoax thing until you mentioned quotes and I went looking for the quote.

So you're telling me that six members of the Trump administration heard these remarks directly from Trump, implying that he said this to a pretty wide and varied audience, yet no concrete proof of these statements exist and it took over two years for anyone to say boo?

What a likely story!
