I agree, but I don’t understand why. Do they not see the economic possibility of having an elite national team??? Soccer’s popularity is growing in the and they could profit IMMENSELY with a run deep in the WC. They’d be building a money printing machine!
The USSF is corrupt.

Everyone knows the US's problem is the structure of development and pay-to-play. But pay-to-play lines the pockets of USSF. The US is trying to manage soccer like we do other sports and that's not the efficient way to grow teams and develop young athletes. We need startup clubs and relegation. Clubs that will go out in their communities and recruit and develop talent regardless of wealth. They invest in local youth development with the idea that they will be valuable to the team as a player or trade/sale as a young adult. In that system, the successful clubs have the money, not USSF.

Bill Lambier, Joe Dumars, and Charles Oakley would literally beat the sh** out just about every player you listed. It's a different game today than it was 20+ years ago but the great ones adjust. And you're entitled to your opinion, even if it's ridiculous.

Even with the removal of touch fouls and a style of play like early 90s Pistons accepted, there are still fouls in the game. You don't win a basketball game by beating the sh*t out of someone. The biggest difference in my opinion is the positional versatility and the greater skills held by taller, larger players. In the 90s, no one over 6'10 had range outside of 15 feet. Now we've got 7 footers shooting over 30% from the 3 pt line. We've got guys who are 6'8 and above that run the entire offense. Other than Magic, there weren't players that big that ran an offense that era.

One point that's important here: every generation of players will have outliers that are exceptions to general quality of skill and athleticism, so there are individuals in each areas that could be dominant in any area (MJ, Magic, Shaq). However, I think it's obvious to anyone that watches basketball that players overall are more skilled and in better athletic shape than players in the 90s. There were still dudes smoking cigarettes at halftime in that era!

A friend who used to play professional soccer swears by the effects of smoking a Doobie at halftime

Well the good news on this is that those infected will have immunity for a while. Especially since there is a new study stating that immunity may actually last for 10yrs or more.

Thanks for the insight, seriously!

I just can’t fathom how someone, even someone who is getting rich off title current system, can’t see that an elite, WC Final 4-type USMNT would make so much more money.

The current structure isn’t working, but it’s gonna take some major stones by someone to change the SOP and do what needs to be done to get to Belgium/Portugal/Germany/Brazil/Spain-like levels.

The Pistons were one of the more dominant teams in the late 80's, early 90's by being one of the most physically imposing teams to ever play. Not saying that you're overall point about today's athlete isn't true but there have been teams in literally every sport who have won championships by being the most physically imposing, they just don't have the staying power because of the physical toll it takes on the body. And yes, there are exceptions but, the NBA, overall, was significantly more physical in the 80's and 90's.

And, for the record, one of the greatest defensive ends of all time, Doug Atkins, would crush a few beers and smoke half a pack of cigarettes at halftime and then go right back to dominating fools like stepchildren.

Different times man.

Gibbs probably won’t be the last opt out. It can happen for a variety of personal reasons especially concerns for close family members. I hope we can all support the players who decide to do so.
how do you expect some on this board to support a players decision when they don’t even believe the virus is real?

VN, I need your T&PS. My oldest, my daughter, is getting married tomorrow. I realize this pales in comparison to #liftupdrew but throw some good juju ole InVol's way if you can spare a moment.
Shew I dread the day. Ive got 2 boys and one daughter she’s 15 now, and don’t even want to think about what you’re going to be doing tomorrow. Those little girls are special. All I can say is better you than me 😂. I kid, not really though 1598654508305.gif

I don't blame anyone from opting out due to this virus. I am an essential worker and I tested Positive on Monday. I am guessing I contracted Covid through my job but I can't really know for sure. This is alot my scarier than I had ever thought. I have been deathly ill at times since Saturday. Had to go to ER Wednesday because i couldn't breathe. I was able to get some very strong steroids to help manage these horrible symptoms. Its sad when your so sick you can't hardly get up on your own to use the restroom. I wasn't a big believer in this virus either but my outlook has since changed. Covid 19 will challenge your will to live.

If I know anything about VN, this group will stick with you. Stay strong and let us know if we can help.
