It’s not, unfortunately. The headline is misleading. It’s the same quote:

I don’t think that’s the right direction, really,” Sankey said. “ Could we? Certainly. So, there’s a difference between can you do something and should you do something in life. And so, we’re actually set up with our schedule, with our own health protocols, that we could if that was the circumstance; operate on our own. I’m not sure that’s the wisest direction, but you know, there’s been a lot of interesting things have happened since March in college sports.”

The SEC playing a season by itself might not take palce even if the other four Power Five conferences did cancel. While that is a small possibility, according to Sankey, it just might not make sense in the long run.”
100%

But all that said, this one gave me hope, "but you know, there’s been a lot of interesting things have happened since March in college sports" 👀

Left coasters are always angry about something

Well, that is the truth of it. Let's piss 'em off really bad and announce we're playing because "Trump wants us to!" The meltdown would be epic.

Not being political here, just pointing out how to trigger the left coast.

Classes are gonna get cancelled in a couple weeks anyway. Cases are about to spike big time. Just keep that Sept 26th date and let the student athletes stay on campus when everyone else has to inevitably leave.
Cases are going to spike into perpetuity probably. We’ve only seen a small fraction of testing that will be done.

I think there's gonna be some lawsuits over this. Hear me out...

I don't think the NCAA will allow conferences planning to play to gain that kind of recruiting advantage over the others who have canceled. So they will make everyone cancel. Then, the lawsuits from the other conferences that want to play.
SEC and ACC will just tell them to f off. It would only hasten the downfall of the ncaa

Listening to PAC 12 presser and it sounds like they are covering themselves against the SEC and ACC playing by wrapping themselves in that "science" and "health concerns" make their decision the only responsible decision.

They are going to be very angry if the SEC plays.
Bless their little commie hearts

Empty football stadiums make a lot more sense than empty MLB stadiums. It would make for good TV.

Would be interested to see the financials on this. I have heard reports that some schools have to have 50% capacity to break even (one being Ole Miss), but I assume the tv money at the end of the year can make up for all of that. So, would schools rather go with no fans as opposed with 20% capacity? At 20%, you still need to pay attendants, police, vendors, etc. Will be interesting.
