You have to request a ballot vs just being mailed a ballot. What if I move to Colorado next year and TN decides to just send me a ballot when I don't live in TN anymore. Any Tom, Dick or Harry that lives at my previous address can fill the ballot in and send it back and it'll be counted. You think that's fair?
Everyone who gets absentee ballots has to apply themselves.
The mail-in-ballots being discussed for 2020 involve the government sending mass mailings to all voters. And in most, cases being complained about, they send a absentee ballot request form.
It’s a recipe for fraud and it will fuel an argument that the results can’t be trusted.
That’s is exactly how Mail in voting typically works. Each state can alter that but they mail ballots out and no form of current ID is required from what I’ve heard. I’ve never done it myself though.I just voted by absentee ballot for the first time this year and it was simple. The state website allows you to track your ballot and shows when it was sent to you and when it was received back so I think this allows for some level of security. Now if they just willy nilly send ballots out to people that aren't expecting them I don't think that will work.
