The point is that the founding fathers would be considered neither liberal nor conservative in today's world. So, in the context of the modern political world, saying the founding fathers were liberal is misleading and disingenuous at best.

No, you had it right before. They were classical liberals out of the Rosseau school. Basically, we all are classical liberals, Politics, however, is divided between conservative classical liberals and liberal classical liberals.

Yes, to a degree most of modern western civilization has classical liberal elements. I'm still opposed to holding up the founding fathers as liberals in an attempt to support modern liberalism.
