Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Let’s say you have a mask. You touch door handles and other objects. You reach up and touch your mask to adjust it. You take it off to eat and put it back on. Aren’t you contaminating the mask with your hands?

My wife and I have made a sport of watching mask etiquette. It’s horrifying.

It’s not an invisibility cloak and the discipline one wears it with will dictate efficacy. Obviously if the average person increases transmission risk with a mask then it’s useless for public health. But I don’t know if that’s the case.

A lot of people only wear masks because the business they are visiting requires it. Thus, I doubt they really care about any of that.

The mask law here in Alabama lasted like a day, took my autistic son to see The Sandlot on a baseball field the other night, about 150 people there..it was us and the police in masks...when they took theirs off we removed ours...this morning me and one other woman out of about 10 in the convenience store wore them...I don't think they are a great help but if it keeps the state open I'll wear one...businesses have suffered enough over this pandemic

Two factors led to the change:
1) They wanted masks to go to medical providers early
2) The degree to which asymptomatic spread might play a role in the epidemic was not fully appreciated

1. They can order masks to go directly to medical providers without being available for public consumption..... most of the public are using homemade masks or some variation there of

2. Dr Fauci stayed he believed as early as January that there was asymptomatic transmission.... wouldn’t it be smarter to go the less invasive course of action.... they shut down the entire us economy before requiring or advising everyone to wear a mask.

This is where I am. I really don’t care one way or the other. It really isn’t difficult to wear one only when inside public places for short periods. If it helps open things back up, then I’m on board. I don’t even notice it anymore.

That’s my feelings on it..... if they will allow us to live life like normal then I will wear one every single day.

My thing is there has to be some end to it.

If there was some sort of hard cut off. Something like wear masks until August 15th, and then we reevaluate. If we dont need them anymore great. If they do need more here is the new date.

Cant let the government give itself open ended restrictions like this.

and once everyone does this, the trash politicians will mandate something else and say masks arent working, just like the lockdowns -- they want everyone so pissed off that Trump loses

What drives me nuts is the people with masks that seem to think it's a license to rub their body against you at a store. This wasn't cool six months ago, it's much worse now. I may start involuntarily coughing when I go places.

To your first point, you don’t think there was an effort in March to slow down public mask usage and preserve stocks for medical use?

Fauci’s comments in April suggested to me a shift in the appreciation of the DEGREE of asymptomatic spread, beyond just the possibility or occurrence of it.

Fauci has been consistent on that - masking is not a substitute for distancing.

Just the opposite. The US is in a COVID mess all because Trump is trying to get re-elected. He denies that coronavirus is a serious problem. He shames scientists for telling the truth about it. He doesn't wear a mask or want others to wear a mask because he wants to downplay the impact of corona. Trump wanted the US to open up ASAP so the economy could rebound in time for the election. All of Trump's plans have blown up in his face. He's taking down the Republican Party with him.
Shhhh! Don’t tell anybody. Just let Trump keep talking. He’s doing a great job deep sixing his own campaign and that interview with FOX’s Chris Wallace yesterday was a classic combination of ego, narcissism, incoherence and ignorance. That’s why Biden is being so low key. He doesn’t have to say anything and just lets Pompous Maximus keep digging that hole. Brilliant strategy.

Yay. He’s a hero.
I’d vote for Cuomo before I’d vote for Trump or Biden and wish he had jumped into the race. I believe Cuomo performed admirably given a ridiculously bad situation. Talk about faint praise. I guess I just believe he lies less often than Trump or Biden. Of course he could only lie 95% of the time and be less so it’s a pretty low bar.

1. I’m a medical professional and what the public does or doesn’t do really doesn’t effect us.... It’s not like we purchase our masks at wal mart.....the government can require those masks be sent to healthcare providers while the public continues to use homemade cloth masks like they are now.

2. Everyone on this page knew the danger this virus posed just by watching China...... I find it very hard to believe that the CDC/Dr. Fauci(whose only job Is to monitor situations like this was as ill prepared as there obviously were) I deal with this nonsense all the time.... we watch slides on how bad cross contamination is and the next second we are told to cross contaminate all day long we will be fine.

There are/were folks in hospitals providing their own masks.

My cousin sells for 3M and yes hospitals can be supplied outside general sales, which they did. So I get that. But that also doesn’t mean medical grade masks weren’t in the market, being stolen for personal use, etc. Fauci’s explicit words in his interview was that it was best to keep supply available for first responders. However, he also threw a little shade on the idea of everyone masking up. That tune changed and he cited increased evidence of transmission for more than the normal 2 days pre-symptomatic as being a reason for that.

Only to the anti-science, uninformed simpletons
So I take it you agree with him? That New York handled it correctly? After 10s of thousands of deaths? After sending COVID positive patients back into nursing homes? After waiting until nearly May to make any efforts at sanitizing the subways?

I think you are the real simpleton for not at least acknowledging that Fauci made an absolutely outrageous statement.
