Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

UT is one of the top school for football revenue. It makes, what, over 100M per season? That's a big bite for the University as a whole, too. Athletic programs will suffer and so will the general fund.

Yep, bye bye POTSL band scholarships and most male non revenue sports.

I wouldn't go that far, yet. At least not at UT. Some smaller schools or schools with less annual revenue might have to make those tough decisions.
Wouldn't UT simply dip into their endowment or take out a loan to cover until things get back to normal?

It's my understanding that they can't. I believe UT athletics has to be self supporting and the support the band. Maybe someone more in the know could clarify.

Agree. It's like the year that didn't happen. We've lost school semester, St Pats Day, Cinco Di Mayo, Mother's Day, Memorial Weekend, July 4, and probably Labor Day.
What bothers me more is having a kid in elementary school and knowing she's missing the things I remember. There won't be a do over for sleepovers, water fights, field days, etc. We are doing what we can to keep them entertained by having friends is a big part of being a kid and they simply don't have many right now.

At least with elementary age kids they have time, my heart goes out to the HS kids that are missing out on the HS years.

PJ mentioned something along similar lines a couple months ago. His kiddo needed the social interaction which came with school (I am not sure the reason why now). He noticed the ill effect of missing that socialization.

HS was fun, wouldnt trade it for someone elses. But College was the first time the fun felt real/not limited.

I went to a strict Baptist school for a semester then moved back home and commuted to the local school. Wouldn't recommend either.

Yeah that's why I enjoyed college, going to UT got me away from the parents. 1.5hrs to 2 hrs was enough separation.

Far enough where I am not seeing them every weekend but close enough where going home wasnt a big chore.

I encouraged my kids (didn't take much) to go and not come home on the weekends. See them more now that they are married and have their own houses than when they were in HS living at home.

I told my kids if they were serious about getting a college education & not f*** off but to stay home for a year or two & go to a nice local college. Then when/if they would like to transfer to some other college we'll do that w/no problem. But they liked it here & got their degrees & now their all grown up w/families to take care of. Living the American Dream.

I think I would have done a whole lot better had I went away to a normal school.

I had an after school job while I was in HS. After I graduated, I went to a Trade School here. They treated that like it was a job site. Spent 4 months doing that & then decided to enroll at a local college for further learning the same ole stuff I'd just learned in HS.

My dad wanted me to do that. But for my degree it wouldnt have shaved any time off.

I agree that staying home & going to college isn't for everyone. My two boys moved out of the nest & got their own place after they graduated HS to see what the adult life was like. It was only later after college did they move away for awhile to see things outside hometown life was like. One son thanks me for having him do that which he thinks it was a good lesson that way.

I need to stay out of it too. This was the 1st time that I ever responded to his racist butt ...nope, I did once before in the seattle thread IIRC...but the outright hate and racism coupled with him telling everyone he is 6ft2 and 230lbs etc was just too much guys . Unless a man is built like a college LB, DE, DT etc, it ain't the size of the dog in the fight...and I just hate a guy trying to be a racist and internet tough guy both. Just hate and ignorance manifested. I cannot stand a white racist either though...and admittedly with half my siblings black and half white, this race strife makes me very nervous and unhappy. A racist person hates and is a sorry threat kinda to at least half of my family and I do get upset about it more than I should from time to time.

But this guy is the most racist poster that I know of
