Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

Fruitcake? Yeah you've got no personal issues with the man and are definitely looking objectively at his coaching ability. :whistling:

I have issue with his overall coaching record and the fact there are so many bandwagon fans on here touting him as the next Meyer which he is not. Meyer has been a success as a HC since his first job at Bowling Green then to Utah and now FL. Then there are the people who say if he was at UT he could get better recruits. The truth is if he was so great he would not have to settle for the "scraps". Great players would want to play for a great coach but with his record of 7 players in the NFL in his ninth year does not support his greatness. Highly touted recruits go to schools and coaches where they feel it is their best shot of going to the next level. Give me a coach who can recruit 5 star talent and have them live up to it and I will show you a winning program. Oh wait we have those it's called USC,Texas, and the Gators. Those programs are consistent year in and year out because they recruit so well and then coach the kids up to their potential. Then each year you have a coach with subpar talent that exceeds expectations with less talent, good for them. Call me crazy but I would rather have a team that is considered a contender each year then a surprise every 9 years.

I read it, I found the Van Gogh self portrait shows he is not that stable along with is pirate fixation. His quirkiness is why he would not make it at UT that long if he was hired. He loses 3 games and people here will be going get rid of that fruitcake. I myself don't want him here for numerous reasons but mainly is overall record is no better then the man we just fired. And when he was OC for KY I don't recall KY being that successful in the won loss record.

Jesus please. You got your man. Other 1000 cant? Cant we all just get along?

I never said he could coach crappy players. I take it you agree with all else in that post.

I agree with all that is posted. I know this is his best season in 9 years. But I have watched every season since he has been here. With that said I think I see alot of brilliance in his offense.

I think the reason why he has not done better in years past is because he has never had a good defense. This year he has one, and it shows with the 10-0 record. Do I think there are better hires? Yes! Do I think he would be a good coach at UT? Yes!

I really would like to see Florida vs Tech. Just to gauge this team with the top of the SEC. I think it would be a hell of a game!!...Then again, it might be a blow out!!...Either way!!

NO. If I was to guess, I would say 1-2 losses. florida, maybe Alabama.

Okay.

That means the best team the man has ever had would not be good enough to win the SEC East.

Do you know how many times Fulmer has won the SEC East during the time Leach has been HC at TTech? Did you know he won it just last year--and noboby would call that Fulmer's best team?

Would you consider winning the SEC East enough to call a coach 'successful' at Tennesee?

CPF is not leaving because he couldn't win the East. And, you admit that you want to replace him with someone who can't win the SEC East, by your own assessment.

See the issue?

IDK, man .....his first season at Tech 2-4 in conf. From there on .500 or better in league play with eight and nine win seasond
s the norm...ALL WITH 2* atheletes. Lubbock sucks. I'm surprised that he can pull enough horses out of that heavily recruited state and drag em' up there. Then he creates monsters. What more could you wish for at this point. I mean, we've already lost some recruits. Our new HC may have to try to make some noise with less , at first. Who better to do that?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a "bandwagoneer" for noone. What say ya'll.
P.S. I completely understand your concerns !!

Thats what I thought!....Well in that case.

Look at the level of talent on each team. Florida has the best of the best.

Tech? Not so much!

So...yes I would be happy with Techs talent losing 1-2 games in the SEC.

And now days, you can win the SECCG with 2 loses!

At this point, with the big names falling like flies all around us, I'm becoming more and more open to Leach, pirate statues, fake Van Gogh's and all. The final selling point for me will happen this weekend against OU. A win there and I will feel a whole lot more comfortable.

There haven't been any big names dropping like flies. A few guys have refused to express interest while they guide their current team through the rest of the season. That's completely normal. Fulmer's firing was announced how long ago? Two weeks? Relax.

Someone thought enough about Davis to let him coach in the NFL. Who has ever cared to lift Leach from Lubbock.

Davis=architect of the best team ever
Leach=a coach who has never won anything.
I just don't see Davis as so much better than Leach. Did anyone see the NC/Md game where Davis elected to punt from from the Maryland 33 yd line? CPF would be proud but I'm tired of chicken s... coaching.

Davis - college 67% pro - 40% age - 57

Leach - college 67% pro -n/a age - 47 coud coach pro in next 10 yrs
architect of best team in Texas Tech history

Texas Tech has a few 1-loss, 10-11 win type seasons. Still too early to crown anything with OU, the conference championship game, and a bowl game on the horizon.

The only "not interested" quote I DON'T put a lot of stock in is Davis, but even then I do believe that his comfort level at NC is too high. Cowher? Not gonna happen. Gruden? Flat denied, and I don't think another NFL coach is going to pull a Saban. Muschamp - the new Joker Phillips of Texas. Could care less about Kiffen. Kelly makes me want to throw up a little in my mouth, so that leaves Leach who I am not sold on either... hence the OU game.

That's where you are wrong. This year you can't and this is the only year you have any room to argue on Leach's behalf. In no other year would he have had a sniff at even thinking about the SECCG... just like his failure to play in the Big 12 CG.

Lose to UF this year as you suggested he would (and I agree... I'd also say Saban shuts his offense down... and UGA would be a scoring frenzy in which their ability to control the clock with an effective running game would give Richt the edge again).

Bottom line is unchanged. Leach's best team loses the SEC East. You have to win the east to play in the SECCG. So, there is no conference championship for the best team the man has ever assembled.

The sad reality of it all... Hamilton can not afford to hire a guy who cannot, at the very least, win the SEC East. He has to replace the guy he fired with someone who can win the championship. It's that simple. This job is not for the faint at heart.

Now, rent the Disney Pirate movies, take your son to Disney World and ride the Pirate rides, but rest assured he'll have plenty of time to see Pirates outside the UT football games.

And, have a good night!:)

In the end, I'm sure we both just want the Vols to win.

Not really the same argument. And Leach isn't close to getting a professional job.

I like how you avoided the differences in talent!!...But to each his own!

How did you know I have a thing for Pirates? Actually I just like too LOOT the BOOTY!!!!!ARRRGG!!!!

Cowher I'm not sure was a realistic prospect in the coaching staff. Gruden was more interested in the position than he let on. He and Hamilton had a lot of discussions. Muschamp is merely a guy a few people on this site are wanting, much like Chris Petersen. Hamilton isn't going after him. Kiffin and Kelly would come if offered and would both do well. Gary Patterson, Dantonio, Graham, and Harbrough might be options.
