Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

some people are just stuck in their ways. i wish people would understand that at texas tech he puts all of his talent on offense because there isnt so much talent to put on both sides. and he still beats the likes of a texas team. at tennessee he should be able to get enough athletes to put them on both sides of the ball. let him run his offense, and let his d-coordinator run his d. simple. but i guess if people are happy with 10 points a game, then be happy.

You don't seriously believe that, do you?

If so, I have this great piece of property we need to talk about.

i actually do believe it. what makes you think he doesn't? he had a choice of where he wanted to play crabtree. where is he playing? if he had gotten berry as a recruit i can guarantee he would be playing offense. but im guessing you have inside sources that say he only plays 64% of his best athletes on offense. another message board smart guy that knows everything........

Just to clarify...

64% is Leach's average season winning percentage for the 8 years he coached TTech before this season. Before his success this season, there has been no upward trend in his winning percentage since he started. 60% was TTech's winning percentage in the five year's prior to being blessed with him.

That's why they didn't renew his contract before the season started. They had good reason. He hadn't accomplished anything meaningful at that point...

And, most importantly, by UT standards, he hasn't accomplished anything meaningful yet this season. Namely, he's not in the conference championship game yet and he hasn't won it yet.

actually, Leach is spreading some of his offensive talent to the defense
last spring, he switched L.A. Reed from WR to CB and Reed was a productive receiver his first season and one of the better athletes on the team

I agree with the post that recruiting to tech is like vandy against UT. He would have enough athletes for both sides of the ball. You know who the players want by Gerald Jones comments. At least the receivers would be pumped. QB's would probably be excited as well since he could make them look like Heisman candidates--(ex. Josh Heipel at OU)

as you state, Tech's winning percentage in the 5 SEASONS prior to his arrival was 60%

in Leach's last 5 SEASONS, including 2008, his winning percentage is 73%

not to mention, he's taken Tech to its highest ranking in the history of the program.
There're not exactly pining for the Spike Dykes days over in Lubbock

there's several different ways to work the numbers

Leach would have to outrecruit Richt, Meyer and Saban for the south's top talent, which I don't think he could do.

The SEC is all about speed, & I think leach's style would lure in all types of talent needed for us to be back on top. Maybe we could be tagged as "Wide Receiver U" again soon ! & has anyone heard or read if Steele is interested in being our DC?

Not sure why you're adamantly against Leach. All he's ever done is create offense. He's not so dumb that he doesn't understand the need for defense. I don't really buy the recruiting argument, because recruiting to TT vs Texas is like recruiting Vandy vs Tennessee.
All he has ever done, excluding this season, is lose three or more games.

He has the same offense as Pinkle does at MU. Same D too, if either had a D coach, their records would be a lot dif. would be world beaters.

At Texas Tech not exactly a football powerhouse. Excluding this year your boy Davis has only one season with less than 3 losses.Leach and Davis also have the same winning percentage over their college coaching careers. Leach is 75-37. Davis is 62-30.

For all your Leach lovers here is what the boosters of the school he represents has to say about him. But perhaps you think you know him best!

Grouchy Obstinate Boosters | Bleacher Report

Maybe you didn't read it... but that article only succeeds in making disgruntled good old boy boosters look like the close minded jerk offs that they are.

Leach isn't in my top 3....but people hate on him more than he deserves simply because he's different and doesn't give a birdcrap what the hell anyone else thinks about him.

We are under the gun at this point. I was not for Leach origianly but everyday that passes as the names suposedly fall off the list I like him more and more. He could go out and get a great D coordinator and be very very dangerous in the sec. This weekend will tell a whole lot about him going up against the sooners. If he pulls that off lets go get him.

I read it, I found the Van Gogh self portrait shows he is not that stable along with is pirate fixation. His quirkiness is why he would not make it at UT that long if he was hired. He loses 3 games and people here will be going get rid of that fruitcake. I myself don't want him here for numerous reasons but mainly is overall record is no better then the man we just fired. And when he was OC for KY I don't recall KY being that successful in the won loss record.

Fruitcake? Yeah you've got no personal issues with the man and are definitely looking objectively at his coaching ability. :whistling:

As a head coach at TTech:

Leach's wins a steady 64% of his games each season (on a 12-game schedule, that's worse that's between 7-5 and 8-4). That's below expectations at UT.

Leach has lost 3-5 games every season for 8 years while at TTech. You can count on this many losses at UT. That does not meet our expectations.

Leach needs to lose to OU, Baylor, and another meaningless bowl game to finish this year on par with his normal steady performance at TTech to date.

Leach has NEVER coached his TTech team to the Big 12 Championship game. He has NO experience in preparing a team to win a championship game.

Leach has NEVER coached his TTech team to a BCS game. He has NO experience in preparing a team to play on that large of a stage.

He only has coached 10 players who are in the NFL during his 8 year tenure at TTech and never a first round pick. He doesn't know how to work with the caliber of athletes who play at UT.

The guy may be a good OC, but the opening is for the Head Coaching position.

Same as Davis but everyone keeps having a man crush over him.

Someone thought enough about Davis to let him coach in the NFL. Who has ever cared to lift Leach from Lubbock.

Davis=architect of the best team ever
Leach=a coach who has never won anything.
