To Protect and to Serve II

all of this happened due to some nosey ass neighbor....how many times have we seen a nosey neighbor call the cops and get some BS started like this? Is there anyone in this forum that would actually call the cops if their neighbors had a couple of “pot/hemp” plants growing in their back yard?
I can promise you many probably have but won’t say

“If you have never been dealt with by the police by undue force you will not understand this … My eyes have been wide opened! My life forever changed. As hard as this has been, I am grateful for a new perspective. I leave my house feeling watched, feeling violated. If my brothers and sisters of another race feel this daily for the color of their skin, I am heartbroken. I apologize for my lack of understanding. No innocent person should ever feel fear, contempt, alienation for just trying to live and work. Your lives matter to me! I’m sorry it took personal experience to understand. I love my Heavenly Father and I know he loves each of us! May the power of atonement heal us all!!!”

“When we got to the house, we drove into a cul-de-sac full of unmarked vehicles,” Mike Reynolds said. “We were met by 12-15 men armed with AR-15s.” He said a deputy told him it was a good thing the dog was confined in an upstairs bathroom, or she could have gotten shot.

It suddenly gets real when it happens to you...

“He was playing Fortnight, which is pretty loud, and all of a sudden he said he was looking down the barrel of a gun. They put it away real fast, but he was pretty shaken. Thank goodness he had the ear buds in. He asked me, ‘What if I’d been playing ‘Call of Duty’ without the ear buds? They would have heard gunshots and I could have had my brains splattered out against the wall…’ He should not be having thoughts like that. It blows my mind. I teach my kids safe practices. I don’t think he’s going to grow up and be a police officer.”

This adds validity to the thinking behind the "no snitch" policy in the hood.

Now, lets back away from this for a moment. The vaccines and COVID restrictions are coming... tattletales are going to be empowered to turn in neighbors that don't wear masks or keep social distancing. this is going to be a huge problem in the future. And these cops are not going to think 1 second about violating your rights to enforce some petty azz law brought on by a snitching neighbor.

so how would you handle this?

for the past several days your neighborhood has had a vehicle with super dark tinted windows driving thru the neighborhood and stopping where kids( young) are playing in the yard but when parents approach pull off. Should he be pulled over and identified or just left alone? How would you want this handled?

The parents that approached and made an effort to get to the bottom of it should call the police. They've done their due diligence and were good neighbors.

That’s not what I asked you, how Do you think law enforcement Should handle it? Pul him over and I.d. Him Or let him go?

If more LEO's had this mindset, the world would be a better place. I've met some really great police, and I've met a few turds as well with one of which being a Chaplain for the Knox County Sheriff's Office (this guy was a complete douche like you wouldn't believe and was a borderline thief).
I believe I know him. Was he also claiming to have been a trooper in Florida when he actually wasn’t.

I answered your question. I'm wondering where you are going with this and how it relates to the couple in Knoxville that got SWATed for having some hemp plants.

Money grab from the public.

Mayor de Blasio later defended the money grab during his daily news briefing from City Hall.

“The fact is, the reason someone gets a ticket is if they’re doing something wrong,” he said.
Hizzoner claimed that “we will do enforcement only where it’s appropriate and ensure that people understand there are consequences.”

Not related. I was dealing with that situation and wondered how you would prefer that situation handled by police. Your answer didn’t
address my two questions. I’ll list it separately for ya.

Should law enforcement pull him over and I.d. Him or not?

If the neighbors in your example had approached him and done their due diligence, I don't see why you have to put cops and the public at risk by pulling them over. If you know the car and know the license plate, couldn't the cops (or plain clothes detective) just as easily knock on his/her front door? I say plain clothes because if uniformed cops just showed up at their front door, that would draw attention. Maybe at least with plain clothes guys you could catch them off guard.

Not a bad answer but what happens if the tag isn’t on file(which happens ALOT) or is stolen? It’s one of the examples that your screwed either way and needs better defining.
If you pull him over just on that complainant alone, you violated his rights(he hasn’t committed a crime yet) however let’s say you didn’t pull him over the next day he snatches a child. Then you did nothing to protect that child.

if you pull him over and get his name and log him down he probably moves on. Just wanted to see how ya answered that one. There is no right answer to it. The only way plain clothes deal with it is if it escalates at least in our county.

Well if that is the case then you have probable cause to think it is a stolen vehicle. Then I'm sure you could get all of the legal wheels turning and get warrants or whatever needs to be done in a proper, calm manner. I'm not sure why cops love pulling people over on the streets so much, but imo, that is a far more dangerous way of doing business.

I hate pulling people over. I’m older and slower now. It’s never really been my thing. As a general rule I’d say your issue is more with unseasoned officers. And I can get behind that. Just because a tag is not on file tho doesn’t mean it’s stolen. And just because it is stolen doesn’t mean it will show up that way when you run the tag. Those things take time to enter the system. I hope your seeing my point.

I'm not sure what you are driving at here. This sounds to me like it is a waste of time for any officer to run anybody's license and registration after a traffic stop. From what you are saying here, it appears that it doesn't tell you much of anything anyways. So why harass normal citizens on a traffic stop and run their license and registration if it is as inconclusive as you are painting it out to be?
