It's the same standard though. A cop doesn't have more or less of a right to kill people in the street than a citizen.But here is the significant difference between a corrupt athlete and a corrupt cop. A corrupt athlete doesn't have the power to take way your life, liberty and property. That is why they need to be held to a much higher standard than these random people you just mentioned.
With great power comes great responsibility.
I think when people say cops should be held to a higher standard, they really mean cops shouldn't be held to a lower standard.
If you start making a claim that cops do not have the ability to defend themselves or engage in neccesary violence, I don't see who exactly is going to sign up for that, considering cops are people too and not robots.
