2020 Presidential Race

So the whole state of California is evil?
I can get behind this.
Yeah... if a Republican said something like 15% of the American population were "not very good people", you would probably think they were low-balling it (because much more than 15% of the American population votes Democratic) ... but because Biden said it, Republicans will pretend to be offended by it.

How could it get worse from the last election. But it did. Next election will be between Peewee Herman and a Jonas brother
Herman with his VP pick.

I'm not remotely offended.

I literally just called Californians evil.

How can I say that and then be offended?

I was slightly joking though. Only about 1/3 of Californians are evil. But they are evil.

Hell, evillawyer is proud he/she is evil and proves it on here daily.

🙂

That 15% of American people that aren't very good are all in politics and includes Biden himself.

I voted for Trump because I was tired of career politicians and he had my support up until this year. Slowly deteriorating and it sped up the last couple weeks until it was gone.

Hate to do it but I'll sit this one out more than likely. Still think Trump wins another term tho.

But you realize that oddsmakers aren't making predictions, right? They set lines where they believe there will be an equal amount of wagering on both sides and then adjust those lines as the bets come in.
Exactly. They have a monetary incentive to be correct, not a political incentive.
Again, up till recently Trump has been the favorite. Here recently the odds have changed to favor Biden.

What changed you can't blame the china virus or economic collapse on him.

Depending on ur state a no vote is a yes vote for a career politician named biden.

No idea where u are though but if ur in a swing state please reconsider.

I'm saying that I don't think their lines should be thought of as "correct" or "incorrect" as long as there is an equal amount being wagered on both sides. They deal not with prognostication, but with public perception of available information.

Since taking office, Trump has conducted himself just as any career politician would. He has the character and personality of a career politician... he just hadn't worked in politics until recently.

... and you can't ignore the fact that the United States has the largest prison population in the world by far. There are currently 600,000 more people in the American prison system than there are in China, despite there being over 4 times as many people in China. Our judicial system is certainly aware that we have some bad people living here.

He has passed more jail reforms than the past 4 presidents combined.

These riots never happen if one of your leading democratic leaders who just ran for president actually did her job and fired him while she was in authority to do so instead of turning a blind eye.

Kamala Harris wishes she had put more away while always seeking the max sentence.

Damn those rep.....oh wait.....

Even taking this at face value, it has nothing to do with how Trump has conducted himself. His self-enrichment, stacking his cabinet with corrupt people like Scott Pruitt, Wilber Ross, Ryan Zinke, Alex Acosta, Elaine Chao and Betsy Devos. The constant lying...

Both sides suck.

I just feel trump sucks less and u feel biden sucks less.

Neither one is our dream candidate.

Hooray two party system!

All of them? One or two? Which ones and in what context?

This is the kind of imprecision that ruins political dialogue: Breezily ascribing to an entire party, or its entire leadership, some sentiment easily attacked.

I admit I've done the same thing from time to time with the GOP and will endeavor to stop.

Your lack of self awareness is yyyyuge.

Whitmer Dodges Coronavirus Oversight Probe

Potential VP pick refuses to testify in oversight hearing about admin's contract with Dem firm

Michigan's Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer refused an invitation to testify before a special oversight committee created by the state legislature to examine her widely criticized handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Republican state lawmakers on Thursday requested that Whitmer testify before the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic, which was created after the governor awarded a lucrative coronavirus-related contract to a major Democratic consulting firm that had previously worked for her campaign. Whitmer said she would not testify during a Friday press conference, citing the legislature's ongoing lawsuit over her use of executive authority throughout the pandemic.

"At this point we are in a legal battle and I don't think that testifying in front of the committee makes a lot of sense," Whitmer said. "So I won't be accepting the invitation."

Committee chairman Matt Hall slammed Whitmer's decision in a Friday statement, saying the governor "didn't even wait 24 hours to decide she was not willing to be honest and forthright with them."

Whitmer, a potential vice presidential candidate, initially said she would "absolutely" allow administration officials to testify before the committee if requested during a May press conference. Her spokeswoman later walked back the pledge, saying state officials would "do their best to accommodate requests to participate." The committee currently has the power to subpoena documents but cannot compel state officials to testify.

Whitmer rescinded the state's contact tracing contract—which would have paid Democratic political consultant Mike Kolehouse and liberal data firm NGP VAN to collect sensitive health data—just hours after announcing it. She went on to blame the decision on the state's health department, saying "when it was brought to my attention, I told them to cancel it." However, internal emails show that top Whitmer aides gave the deal the "green light" after changing the names of the organizations listed in the contract to appear less partisan.

The emails also show that health department officials questioned the contract, which would have seen Kolehouse earn nearly $200,000, days before it was signed.

WaPo Mistakes Job Gains for ‘Grim’ Losses

When the May jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics was released Friday, the positive numbers caught many by surprise—including the Washington Post, which mistook the job gains for losses.

"Grim milestone to be reached as May unemployment rate nears 20 percent," the Post falsely stated in a tweet at 9:46 a.m. that was soon deleted.

A correct tweet soon followed, saying, "U.S. jobless rate unexpectedly declined to 13.3 percent in May amid pandemic," although the story pictured still carried the "grim milestone" headline with the false 20 percent figure.

The text of the Post‘s story, written by economics reporter Eli Rosenberg, remained incorrect even after the headline was changed, according to a screenshot tweeted by author and podcast host Neil Cybart.

"Another 2.5 million workers lost their jobs in May," the story said, although it was actually 2.5 million workers who obtained jobs.

pretty close to it? Got a link?
Per stats in The Washington Post:

A closer look at where those job gains occurred is telling. Over half (1.4 million) were in restaurants. Restaurants and retail stores were heavy beneficiaries of the Paycheck Protection Program. Obviously, the job losses that were regained, restaurant workers, were just people who had been furloughed In March who returned to work in May.
