George Floyd Protest/Riots

Which video? In the one I posted, I must have missed it too.

At about 4:00 you can see Barr come down. He apparently gave the order so unsure if it happened then or not. But the first time I notice officers holding batons was shortly afterwards. Up to that point I saw a bunch of pointing, rude hand gestures, and two objects, maybe water bottles, on the ground in between that had been there the whole time.

At maybe 20-25:00 the officers move up and eventually get to the fence. Nothing thrown and no new objects on the ground at that point.

From 25-30:00 most people are on their knees with their hands raised. The few people still standing are agitated but I didn’t see anything thrown.

At 30:00 they start getting gassed and hit with sticks.

The only evidence I saw of anything being thrown was the debris on the ground that was there at the start of the video.

Yes, the one you posted. First objects thrown from protesters happens around 28-29 minutes in. A few protesters at the very front turn and yell not to throw things. Unfortunately, claims of peaceable protest just went bye bye at that moment and you just got labeled a hostile crowd. Sux, but that’s how it works.

PD batons were out early and being actively used to bang on their shields. You can hear and see that in the video.

I will say once again. There should have been clear and concise instructions telling the protestors they need to relocate relayed via bullhorn as soon as the skirmish line formed up.

This is a complete and total failure from those in charge and it’s complete and total bull crap. I never heard anything from the LE side until late in the video and the skirmish line you see is mounted PD.

I have a few things to say about what I saw from PD in that video, and others I’ve watched, but I’m so effing irate about it that I can’t articulate it without being subject to a board vacation.

I will say that the events of the past week have further confirmed that common sense in this country is a freaking unicorn no matter which side of line you’re on.

The current social unrest has got me thinking. With all of our tech advancements over the last 30 or 40 years, why hasn't there been anything developed which consistently provides non lethal threat abatement for LEOs to use? Something which could restrain suspect without requiring officers to be physical or in close proximity would be very timely invention right now.
Beyond a tazer, I can't think of any device currently in use
Drugs. When a meth head can beat the crap out of cop with a hole thru his heart a little science isnt going to do much.

After watching the video, I’m going to have to agree with park police.

Did anyone see anybody in that Lafayette video puking their guts out? Gagging violently? Drooling or snot streaming out of their noses?

Nope, you didn’t. You saw sneezing and some eye burning, tears.

Now, go to your kitchen, take the lid off your pepper shaker, hold it under your nose and take a big inhale. What happened? You started sneezing, your eyes teared up and probably burned.🤦‍♀️

1) Were the protestors peaceful? Yes.
2) Does it matter if a smoke bomb or tear gas were used? Were they beaten with clubs? Were their 1A rights infringed upon? Yes.

Everything else in conjecture. Peaceful protestors were forcibly removed from an area by our government.

I'm going to say Pepper Spray, and the church ladies giving out snacks aren't used to being gassed so they didn't know. Still, stupid to do this to what seemed to be peaceful people over a photo op.

In other news, will Trump label them Terrorists? I have a feeling that he won't since they support him.

White nationalist group posing as antifa called for violence on Twitter

Edit: wrong link: Facebook shuts down far-right group planning to bring weapons to protests

I watched the last few minutes before it went crazy again and I still don’t see it. That part is obviously way more emotionally charged than the first 25 minutes. It seems like the protest got agitated by proximity to police and the closing off of the road to their left. So I’m not saying it didn’t happen, I’m just not seeing it.

In terms of common sense: I don’t understand the response of the people protesting. Seems like there are two effective options: gtfo (Which is what I would do because that looked terrifying) or passively resist, don’t move at all, and martyr yourself by getting pummeled by the cops (which seems like the most effective form of police brutality protest, to me.)

Most of them were running away from the pulmonary irritant and the armored men with sticks, then running back to do more jeering when the line stopped moving. That seems like a half-assed protest, IMO. Take the beating or fall back, regroup, and demonstrate somewhere else.
