That's very plausible. It's also possible that Chauvin wasn't aware of that. He wasn't on the scene the entire time, but there just isn't a good explanation for why Chauvin remained kneeling on the back of Floyd's neck, while Floyd was handcuffed and laying flat on his stomach, while an ambulance was en route, for 6 minutes. Why didn't the officer who called dispatch and requested an ambulance tell Chauvin to get off of him? You know the man needs medical attention, but you think he still requires such physical restraint (while he is already handcuffed, flat on his stomach, with his eyes closed and not moving?). The fact that lasted for 6 minutes is going to be hard to explain. Floyd wasn't moving at all. Chauvin needs a good attorney.

What are you saying? That there is no high crime in your "high crime" places, or that there are no high crime areas? Not being part of the high crime element, you don't quite understand or empathize with those who deal with the element daily. I've never seen the day that police presence bothers me more than criminal presence.

Weird post. As Obama would say, it'd be a teachable moment if police went on national strike for a month, and ceded these communities to the thugs.

Oh, wait; governors and mayors are doing it for them. We are all Paris now.

I think there's universal agreement from the time video was released, that nothing about Floyd's encounter was correctly handled.

I’d be ok with it.
I’d be ok with police being held to the same standard of behavior as the rest of us.

I’ve had my ass kicked by the police because they could when I was in my early 30s.
I have a cousin who died because the police had the wrong address on a no knock search warrant.
In both cases nobody was held accountable for their criminal behavior. Just because they have a uniform on doesn’t make they’re not just as bad or worse than the criminals.

I’d like to see an independent investigation of all police misconduct accusations. I’d like to see the results presented to a panel of citizens to determine the results (much like a grand jury.)

"All police misconduct allegations" covers a wide range of behavior/allegations, and veracity/sanity of the complaintant. Some from "I felt intimidated because the officer has a gun" to ones of excessive force/injury/death. How far down that rabbit hole do you wish to proceed?

You do know that every department has a procedure for citizen's complaints and that the complaintant must sign an affidavit attesting to the truth of their allegation(s)?

In my early 30s working for a restaurant known as “Roy Peppers porch” we had a bread known as flower pot bread. As the name implies it’s cooked in little flower pots. On my way to Nashville to a landscaping supply house to buy 1000 flower pots. Paying cash. The cash was sitting in the center console.
I’m pulled over for running the speed limit. Let that sink in. Not speeding....I look guilty for driving an expensive car and not speeding. Was asked about the cash. Told the truth. They didn’t believe me. Asked to search the car. I said no. I was removed from the car. While answering questions I was hit with a flashlight for being a smartasses. Apparently answering “yes” or “no” is smartass. I was struck 4 times. There’s a lot more but after 1-2 hours they finally decided they had nothing to charge me with. And let me go. They followed me all the way to the landscaping place and went in to make sure I safely bought the flower pots.

Keeping the world safe from a guy with no record, not even a speeding ticket.

I’m 51 with no record and actually do my best to be law abiding. When the police has lost my trust through multiple interactions then that’s a problem of their making not mine.

Ok and that’s some redneck county police in what the early 1980s? I have personally witnessed in my 20 former years of law enforcement exactly TWO cases of true police misconduct. One was an officer who conducted an arrest while intoxicated (he was turned in by his partners and fired). And one was an officer who used what I would consider excessive force by using pain compliance when not necessary. (I turned him in and he was punished and eventually was fired).
Police misconduct is not as rampant as some make it out to be. It happens some sure but there are hundreds of thousands of LEO and just like any other profession they sometimes get idiots. Hell I’ve gotten as many doctors fired for abuse as I’ve seen officers do

All because they could....this type thing is what fertilizes the hate. You’re stuck... you can’t do anything about it except take it or make it worse for yourself.

I agree with you here. Meeting lawlessness with lawlessness will and has gotten us nowhere. If anything it clouds the issue. There needs to be a change. Accountablility is seriously lacking. it’s not all bad though. Chattanooga has what appears to be the right kind of guy in charge now. We need a lot more like him. that doesn’t change the fact that we have a long way to go overall.
