Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Has been for years. My thoughts are at least as far back as Bush 41

I have always advocated a la carte cable and even wrote a letter to Trump years ago advocating his support for it and how effective. Naive but at least I spoke my mind. Hurt em in the wallet. Not to mention all these other channels I give a rats ass about that I am funding.

I really don't get the love for Fauci. He says obvious things like today. Basically it reeked of CYA, saying things like the virus may come back; the more we let our guard down on social distancing, the more chances we have for this to spread...did he tell us anything we didn't already know?

I'm not impressed with him either.

Do you recall when they had TN at that high?

I just looked up their initial model from late March. It was 81k total US deaths. 1,500 in TN with peak on Apr 21 (predicted range was . They were too low in northeast and too high elsewhere. This 1500 definitely looks like it will end up being too high. (by late April they had revised TN down to 231). But, given that this model works by fitting deaths within their algorithm and there was very little state-by-state death data in late March as we were just starting to see deaths, it doesn't surprise me they did better on the US total but poorly on geography breakdown.
Are you an actuary or some kind of mathematical magician? Seriously....

I’m neither. I’m an engineer. My doctorate was a modeling-heavy thesis, so lots of time in data - I’ve always enjoyed modeling. Even more so recently as I was leading a team charged with fundamental market analysis and data science modeling for a pretty large manufacturing company - so got to see some people who are actually good at this stuff work on some pretty cool problems.

Do you have a home in the highlands?

I have probably run into a few times if so at either the ice cream parlor or ace hardware since nobody goes other than summer.
Highlands is too high dollar for me. I have been there to visit a friend several times. My place is in Linville Land Harbor, near Grandfather Mtn, Sugar Mtn. Not too far from Appy State and Boone, way Northeast of Highlands..

I’ve spent the better part of my career in operations, supply chain, and decision analytics. We’d have a lot to talk about.

Republicans should run all sorts of commercials explaining these nutty provisions in this bill in the Fall. They should use it to hammer Democrats. How many Americans want to release all federal prisoners who are 50+, or have diabetes or asthma? Who wants to give illegals cash and protect them from deportation? There's a lot in that bill that can be used against them politically

I believe the second stimulus is a ploy by Pelosi. She either gets to spend like she wants or it gets defeated and she gets to say...see Rs dont care about you. Will play to the masses.

It’s a fascinating area to me. I moved from science-heavy R&D into a commercial role leading this team and have really enjoyed it. Just tons of fun technically challenging (not advanced math all the time but you have to think) that are incredibly relevant to day to day life. And I’ve learned A TON about oil and gas, which is useful. I just moved into a new role a few months ago but I still have a foot in the other work helping the new guy a lot because with all these changes going on there is just a lot to do.

A snapshot of how Donald Trump is perceived by other countries during the Coronavirus pandemic... Per CNN.com:

Thomas Gomart, director of the Paris-based French Institute of International Relations, said that Europe was watching Trump's response to the pandemic in amazement, calling his behavior "stranger than fiction."

"He (Trump) provides for us a very mixed balance of amusement and a sadness, which is just not what is expected from a U.S. president," Gomart said, an assessment that Spain's Javier del Pino, a leading journalist, shared.

"The way we look at Trump, it was a lot of fun at first," del Pino said. "It's not funny anymore."
Often parents who run troubled households love to pass the the time pointing out issues in the homes of others in neighborhood instead of taking care of home.

It’s fun stuff when you’re in the type of environment that values problem identification and problem solving.

I’ve worked on so many engagements that were fascinating: optimized truck loading (reduce transportation costs over a portfolio of products by balancing weight and cube), warehouse layouts, min ship and stocking quantities, merchandising decisions to optimize margins, retail store clustering...it can be a ton of fun. Good mix of math, stat, and business.

Yes it is. if you think its not its because you hold the same ignorance.

Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art. The CCP virus came from China. Influenza, commonly known as The Flu, is also a virus. Fu rhymes with Flu. Need I go on?

Not saying Kung Flu is not going to magically change where it came from. It came from China. The Chinese Communist Party is responsible for all the deaths in the world as a result of the virus.

That’s bs. They are responsible for covering it up. But once it’s out it’s out. **** happens.

Dr Li Wenliang thought the disease could be SARS and immediately began warning his peers to wear PPE. Rather than sending more experts in to investigate the situation, China accused the Dr of spreading rumors.

This is really the smoking gun. This is when China had the opportunity to stop it. This happened in December. December.

This was the beginning of the grossly irresponsible lies coming from China. I think the WHO lapped up those lies because Dr Tedros was essentially planted into the WHO by China. Dr Tedros himself has a history of lies and coverups during his time in Ethiopia. I don't think that's a coincidence.

While China and the WHO were telling the world there's no human to human transmission, they were buying up PPE. It's criminal what China did. It wasn't ignorance or incompetence.

It's also interesting that Dr Li Wenliang was a healthy 34 year old. Hardly in the at risk age group. Do you think he died of the virus? It's more likely the CCP executed him.

The MSM would rather Monday morning quarterback the president rather than look at the actual issues. No one did everything right. Look at Dr Fauci's comments as late as the end of February as an example.

For our national security, we need to bring manufacturing of essentials like medicine and PPE back to the United States, especially from China. They are our enemy. I'm not saying I want a war because that would only get a lot of our young men and women killed but we need to be more wise when it comes to China.

Look up how much food China has to import to feed their population. There is a reason Trump keeps talking about that trade deal and it's not to boast about the billions of dollars of food they are buying from us. It's a not so subtle threat for China to keep sending us medicine.

"**** happens." You're right. China happened.
