To Protect and to Serve II

I bet traffic stops in general suck

Possibility of being shot or run over. Having to deal with lunatics. In the times I have been pulled over, I act respectful and take my lumps. Only one time I actually went to court and the officer did not show up. I asked the judge to dismiss the case as I took time off from work that morning and she refused and rescheduled. I was rather pissed at her and was quite verbal. She had embarrassment and anger at the officer. I honestly thought it should of lawfully been dismissed and the bailiff acted like she was doing me a favor and could of been in jail scare tactics.Just paid the ticket.

They’ve got you by the balls. That was crappy on the judge’s part. If the cop can’t make his court date and the citizen does... tough titty....ticket dismissed..... unless you were out mooning the police

Nah...you might actually get a kick out of this.

So, a year or so ago, I'm working traffic on the "I". FYI (and you know this, Ras), I don't hide. I sit on the side of the road in plain sight, and run LIDAR. So I get up there, and I'm getting 90+ for over an hour.

And then, all of a sudden, nothing. 77 is the best I can get. Right after that, a few of us meet for lunch at a sandwich shop, and I'm talking about it. There's a younger deputy with us...maybe a year on the road...good kid...and he starts laughing and says "Grandpa, you got Wazed."

I have no idea what he's talking about, so he teaches me. I'll be damned.

So I decide to turn it to my advantage. After that, I go sit on an overpass where I can be seen a mile away. Just sit there. Wait 15 minutes, then go sit on the shoulder a mile to the south; then on the overpass a mile south of that; then turn around and work the same route back north. Pull up Waze. There are like 20 "little blue pigs" on the exact route I just ran. And almost every vehicle out there is at 75 or less.

Not one wreck that day. Didn't write a single ticket after lunch. Don't care. Nobody died on my road.

I'd rather write 100 tickets than have to knock on one door, or make that phone call. Waze lets me let them know I am there, without having to get their autograph. I still make my stops, but now it tends to be more of the idiots who think they own the road, as opposed to those who are just trying to get there a little bit quicker.

Take your small victories when you can get them, Ras. Not all of us are robots.
I’m sure I said this the first time, but I really love this story. Wish more thought like this.

In case anyone was worried, the areas of downtown Nashville that tend to thicken with pedestrian traffic are being heavily patrolled since we entered Phase 1 on Monday so we can be sure that no more than six people come together at a time. Obviously, this is a political allocation of resources and not a police decision. But it is kind of odd to get stuck behind cruisers doing 10 mph in the Gulch during rush hour.

The "Gulch" I don't even think existed 15-20 years ago. I wonder how many of these restaurants that have popped up in "The Gulch", "SoBro", or "Midtown" will survive once all of this blows over.

I'm torn on these auditors, as Ras calls them. I fear a good portion of them are only there to attempt to harass or make an already difficult job more difficult by creating nuisance calls, if they are anything like Nashville and other cities they are already stretched thin, not their fault but they have to deal with it. But there is good that comes from it. Surely there's a better way to ensure we have the right people in law enforcement.

I tend to agree. While there are questionable cops out there, these guys are agitators. They’re looking to get an angry response for their videos and etc.

Let's assume the worst case scenario is that these guys are just out here to agitate.

So the cops' solution is to give these guys exactly what they want, an angry response?

It’s a rough job and the standard should be extremely high. If they cannot handle the “Auditors “ then they should be doing something else.

I do not have the right temperament to do that job. Therefore I should do something else.

I've lived here about 50 years and we've always called that area the Gulch but as a tourist destination there was nothing there other than Station Inn. Only new thing I miss from the Gulch is Cantina Laredo but I cannot honestly state that I went there often enough to help them stay open. There will be some changes coming.

Of corse not, but it appears they’re just looking to be a pain in the ass. I understand the issues, but why go looking for trouble?

Exactly..... but the world we live in is full of flawed individuals...... priests..... doctors.... Contractors 😎you name the profession. There are bad ones in every group. I know they should be held to a higher standard, but I don’t think “auditing” is very helpful.... it may be hurtful as it’s just one more issue cops have to deal with.
Can you imagine some smart ass chump coming on your job site auditing your work?
