What if you knew that a quarter the people around you tested positive for having it at some point? Would it change your opinion? The people getting tests in TN have illnesses, are in high risk groups, or are panicked. The rest are just waiting for the world to restart. They will get a test if they get sick.

I had a flu vaccine and did not get the flu. I did get a respiratory illness that was in January and February unlike anything I have experienced before as did my wife, and we are in the at risk stage of life. Not enough to stop us, but enough for two doc visits with tests and steroid treatments to open us up. No fever, no loss of smell or taste or appetite. Terrible swelling in the ear canals and sinuses. Continuous nasal discharge, without infection, sporadic coughing without discharge. Doc did not test for COVID because well, the experts like the WHO, CDC, Fauci said it was no big deal at that time. Tested for flu twice - negative. We eventually wore it out and got better.

I will take the antibody/antigen test during my physical in a couple of months. I'm betting we had a lesser strain of COVID. If so we got it from one or more family members, friends, church members, etc. In other words, a circle of people that has expanded exponentially over several months. What the LA results show is what may have been occurring nationwide. So that's not "woke" or "stubborn". That's knowing viruses and such are around us all of the time and we develop immunities within our bodies to cope. FWIW my wife had the swine flu despite having the flu vaccine shot that year. Stuff happens. We did not stop living after she recovered. We dealt with it and moved on with our lives.

This isn't about models. The test they used had a specificity that could cause up to 1.7% in false positives. They found 1.5% positive, which due to the specificity, could have all been false. The process they used to recruit subjects was not at all random, which is critical for these types of studies. They then took the 1.5% positive and adjusted to 2.5% to 4.2% on the basis of predictions about demographics. The results are virtually worthless for predictions. None of that had anything to do with models or epidemiology.

For what it's worth, I appreciate your posts on the subject. I think a data-based approach to this problem is best and it appears as though a lot of involved parties are avoiding that for whatever reason.

Thought for the Day: We become like those we admire.

As for football - thank the Lord for the NFL draft beginning tonight, even if it will be in a virtual setting. Maybe they can show people dressed up in their favorite team's gear in their homes, socially distancing across the room with air high fives and fist bumps.

The LA report is flawed, but it does have value. I will be staying home a good bit because I have family members who are high risk. I have been working and I am all for everyone getting back to work and taking care to comply with the guidelines as much as practical.

True crime heads....

A&E On Demand has a show called

Accused: Guilty or Innocent and it profiles the Bryan Steven Lawson vs Chandra Lawson case.

A lot of you from the area might be familiar with the case (happened in Church Hill, TN). I wasn’t at all familiar with it. The details are presented from the defendants POV so it kind of allows you to speculate where you’d lean if you were on the jury.

Absolute great show. Kind of graphic as the family had an interior security system so the shooting was on camera - and they show it.

I started the episode believing one thing but by the end I had changed course. Good stuff. Put it on your list if you’re into that genre.
