Sounds to me like people that believe in evolution cannot value human life.

Even a totally amoral person could understand the evolutionary advantage to being generous. But it's a bad take regardless, like people who don't believe in evolution, few people who do are psychopaths. From an offspring only perspective, you are better off as Ghengis Kahn than Abe Lincoln, but most of us want to live fulfilling lives, not just maximize our genetic future.

This is a bad take in the same way saying that because it is (often) Christian dogma that all non-Christians will go to hell, all Christians believe in forced conversion. That might result in the most souls being saved, but it is not how to live the best life, as a person or Christian.

Most of us temper our personal philosophy with a general sense of decency because it is the right thing to do. Of course, not acting out also lets us operate in society without getting thrown to the wolves, but that is the Darwinian take on it.

When you say legalizing all drugs, are you including meth, heroin, lsd, etc, etc?
And, as far as abortion on demand, which you clearly seem to have no problem with, immediately ends the life of human beings who have no say and no choice. What do you think of their rights? And do you think those of us who are totally against this should have our tax dollars funding it?

Well actually you over-interpret what I'm saying. I just like playing devils advocate.

I am very conflicted over abortion. It's the issue of telling a woman what she has to do with her body versus having children of my own where I could never imagine making that choice. And when does it become permissible? The morning after pill for a rape victim, is that ok, or do you say she has to carry to term? You've already had conception so isn't that killing as well? And what about a pregnancy that seriously endangers the heath of the mother. Do you require her to die to carry to term? I know I don't have the answers, that's all I know. I also know that you're never going to get a constitutional amendment prohibiting abortion and it's always going to be legal in at least 15-20 states.

By the way I believe the Hyde Amendment has prevented federal tax dollars from paying for abortion services for over 30 years now. But you know tax dollars are spent for various reasons that different taxpayers object to. What about capital punishment? Many people object to that. Or what about the military, Quakers would object to that. The using my tax dollars argument doesn't go very far.

But yes I believe all drugs should be legalized. Prohibition never works. All we're doing is putting billions into the hands of the cartels and spending billions maintaining an oversized prison and law enforcement bureaucracy. Meth would probably disappear in a legalized drug environment. But remember, I'm saying tax it and put the money into drug treatment and prevention.

But this started by someone saying that we're making too much of COVID-19 and asking whether the logical result of that is to prohibit alcohol and smoking.

Bad analogy...

1st. Several of the best basketball players are all-time are big men (>6'11"). The most dominant player in the game today is a big man.

2nd. If you talk about the greatest pitchers ever and start with Nolan Ryan, you should immediately be barred from all future baseball discussions. No one with any credibility has ever claimed Nolan Ryan to be the GOAT.

3rd. Look at Bob Gibson's 1967 world series and tell me that the guy wasn't the best baseball player on earth during that particular series.
They changed the rules of the game because of Gibson. So, yeah, he was pretty good.
