Leach is known for building some very potent offenses, directing very prolific passing-oriented teams that have broken school and NCAA records at Valdosta State, Kentucky, Oklahoma, where he was offensive coordinator under Hal Mumme and Bob Stoops, respectively, and Texas Tech, where he became head coach in 2000. Leach's spread offense relies heavily on passing and he has seen several of his quarterbacks post NCAA records. At Kentucky he tutored prospect Tim Couch into a No. 1 NFL Draft Pick. At Oklahoma, Josh Heupel became an NFL draft pick following a year under Leach's tutelage.

He's coached flat out dominate offenses everywhere he's been.

Leach is still my guy. He's a Spurrier in the making.

For what it's worth, I've heard from a big time booster close to my family that Davis is the guy they are really trying to court. That would be fine with me as well.

If Butch Davis comes in here and, in two years, UT loses 5 games and finishes 3rd or 4th in the SECE, people will shrug and assume the situation was worse than expected. If a coach from Texas Tech or Boise St. comes in and does the same thing, there will be a mob with torches outside the AD's office for making such a stupid hire.

Ignoring for the moment whether the difference in perception is fair, you can bet that Mike Hamilton knows it exists.

The stronger the hire, the longer that person will have to turn things around.

The need for a daddy figure as our head coach voiced by some of the fanbase is disconcerting.
