Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

As is the idea that the main criterium to look for in a coach is the possibility of him being in Knoxville in 2023.

...but on a side note, I'd be ecstatic if the next coach were here for 15 years, particularly given the fact its almost certainly not going to be a Tennessee guy.

remind me of what he has won as HC?

Remind me what the innovative and unconventional Spurrier did as a HC before he came to Florida?

He's on the verge of a BCS bowl this year, conference title, and possibly a NC game appearance...9 consecutive winning seasons, 8 consecutive bowl appearances, 7 consecutive seasons with at least 8 wins, 4 nine wins seasons, and 5 bowl wins...all with subpar talent compared with the other big boys in the conference. Imagine if Ole Miss or KY was possibly going to the NC game this year. Any HC that can do that...even if they don't actually make it to the NC game because of one loss...has accomplished enough to at least get a shot at the big time. Kiffin hasn't done anything as a HC and Davis never won a championship to note of (2 Big East Championships at Miami). Leach's accomplishments are at least equal in stature. Chris Peterson is probably the best...strictly judging by HC accolades.

The only cadidates being talked about that are head and shoulders above him is Gruden and Cowher, which are both longshots.

There is more to a candidate than his HC resume.

The difference between Leach and the other guys is, He MAKES his team believe they can win every game...He has it in their head there is nobody they can not defeat...Thats the mentality We need at UT...We need a coach who isn't going to tighten up when its florida week and get all conservative and scared...We need a coach who is going to look across the field at Meyer, Saban and company and say "Come get some" Tired of this team looking terrified every damn time Florida is in town or we play down there and fall apart.

We actually have Tennessee fans acting as if hiring Hal Mumme V 2.0 or Dan Hawkins' errand boy would be a positive move. Utterly laughable.

No more laughable than hiring a coach with a 5-15 head coaching record :ermm: Please

I read on an article earlier that Leak's philosophy on football is "don't play to minimize mistakes, play to maximize results". Man, that would be a wonderful change on the hill.

I think there is an argument that can be made that he is "best available," particularly if Davis isn't.

Well, I think Davis is probably older than what UT wants. Did they not say they wanted someone to be here 10-15 years?

Also, I know Davis can recruit, and I know he has UNC playing pretty well right now (in the ACC..) but I don't k now if he can outcoach, outscheme, and outadjust coaches like Meyer, Saban, Richt, etc.

I have never been a big Tech fan. The one thing I do like about leach is he does not give up, and when he has his foot on your throat, he just pushes harder and digs in his heels! If he can put up 100 points on you he will, no questions asked!!...I just like that kind of mentality!!...This is college football boys and girls not powder puff football!

Exactly!!!..He will dig that heel in deeper and deeper and won't let up!...I've seen him score 70 points on someone and not even break a sweat...We need someone AGGRESSIVE with an attitude for these kids to feed off of...The players always take on the personality of the coach...Now that right there tells you something

What will be utterly laughable is Tenn future records if Leach ends up at a SEC East school that isn't Tenn. Spurrier and Brooks aren't going to coach forever.

i agree. it wouldn't be dull. A lot of people talk about how no one wants to go to a university who runs the spread or what recruits Leach has put in the NFL. i don't buy it. Meyer is running a smoke screen offense and is pulling recruits still ..and putting them in the chance for the national title or bcs bowl every year.

I just read where Leach said it wasn't hard to play QB in his system. He plays QB himself sometimes in practice. Actually when he explains his plays, they're pretty simple. I loved the idea of shooting 90mph greased balls at his receivers in practice. His philosophy, once you learn to catch those, catching a football is easy.

I read about where he shoots those greased balls at his receivers haha!!...That's pretty unique if You ask me...It seems to work, Have You seen the throw to catch percentage??...It's insane, His guys do not drop many balls if ever...I just think he gives us our best chance to turn it around quickly out of any of the other coaches out there.

My point being, the new Tenn coach is already going to have to deal with Meyer, Richt, Saban, and Spurrier every year. That's going to be one helluva hill to get over, if KY grabs Leach things get a lot tougher for our new coach.

Since the CPF firing I have been looking alot at the different coaches out there. I won't lie, I was hoping Gruden would be calling UTK home, but since that is now looking like it won't happen, I think that Leach is the answer. For the guys that say his offense won't work in the SEC I say they need to really look again. There is nothing gimmiky about it. 4 and 5 wide receiver sets with alot of pre-snap motion, in other words a nightmare for a defense to scheme against. The key is having a QB that is smart enough to read the defense and find the WR in space. Then about the time they get sold on the pass, BAM, delay handoff up the middlefor 10. I watched them do it all day long to OK St.

Someone posted earlier that SEC DB's were a different breed than what they play against in the B12. Alot of SEC teams have 2, maybe 3 good DB's, but 4 or 5? No way, I can see this style offense causing nightmares for anyone they play.

Bottom line is I think this offense can work against ANYONE with the right players. Hire a great defensive co-oridinator (Strong, Muschamp, even the guy at TT right now which his name escapes me but had his guys playing fired up and flying to the ball) and I think UTK could be competitive.

I am now sold on Leach.........:rock:

Yeah, Leach hasn't improved his offense in the last ten years either. Clueless as always.
Yeah, you're the one whoring for a guy who has never coached a team to a meaningful bowl and I'm clueless. Actually, I wish they would hire Leach. Then, in about two years, the Leachophiles would replace the Fulmerites as the dumbest group of fans on the planet.

I hear he fancys himself a pirate at heart~

ARRRGGGGG THERE ME BUCKO !!!!

:pirate:

It seems to me that Leach may be the only guy out there that can go toe to toe with Meyer, Satan & Richt, I dunno ??? What do yall think ? Who would intimidate these guys that have been mentioned as candidates ?
