They are human beings. I cannot believe you are that callous to the suffering of the North Korean people. We did a good thing there, and you will never change my mind. If had been 18 years old in 1950-53, I would have volunteered.
Human beings? What about our soldiers? How can you put a value in that? Sending our boys across the world to fight for people to have their own little country so you can have a Samsung? Get the f outta here man. I doubt you would have volunteered at all if it meant you might die for... keeping a border.

Meh. Those people probably don't need to be having a bunch of kids as tough as that is.
But I do respect you opinion and your right to say it. Overpopulation is a huge problem because of the logistics of disturbing goods and services and the corruption that comes with it.

I’m 45 had some blood work done and mine was low. That Dr told me just about everyone’s Vitamin D levels are low. So I’ve been on it ever since. I’m a believer in it

Mainstream view is that we need it for strong bones. The reality is that every major organ system has D receptors. It isn't a vitamin. It's a steroidal hormone. Given our general fear of skin cancer, yes, most people are insufficient, and outright deficiency is common (<20 ng/ml). One study I saw has black Americans at 46% deficiency. That's a big problem.

Also, not to hijack the Civil War discussion (used to be a history teacher), but slavery is not a states' rights issue. It's a human rights issue. To classify it any different is ridiculous. There have been slaves of all colors and creeds throughout time. And in all instances, taking away the humanity and freedom of someone else and regarding them as less than human is immoral and repugnant.

When you’re a slave, it’s reduced to one thing. Your freedom. I couldn’t imagine. Slavery is a stain on the moral fabric of this country. Our founders sought liberty while enslaving an entire race of people (for personal gain). It’s sad.
I don't disagree at all. Slavery was evil. But of the many countries that practiced the trade, not one that I'm aware of carries the guilt like we do. The United States was far from the only country that practiced slavery. But I can't think of another country that beats themselves up over it like we do. At some point, you leave the past in the past, live in the here and now, and plan for the future.

So
Sorry but if you are starving maybe don't start a family? It's not pretty but it's facts. Ask McGill he will volunteer to help out
Hahahahaha
I get it. There is a real problem with getting protection in some places. Sometimes, being pregnant wasn't the choice of the woman. It's easy to stand on the high ground in a 1st world country and say to the poor and under-educated "don't have babies. Becky deserves to have 3 kids because she had a full ride to a state university and her dad has a pension. Having a child is a responsibility. It is also one of the most basic human drives.

You said it. If you can't care for a child don't have a child but that also means I don't think Becky should be pushing them out either. There are too many people in the world and a first world baby has an impact on the world too.

Wow..I am not a coward. I have risked my life several times to help others...so yes I would have. We did a good thing for those people.

A neighbor friend of mine and I were talking a few minutes ago and he told me a joke I'm gonna post before I forget it.

A suspected Covid-19 male patient is lying in bed at the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A young student female nurse appears and gives him a partial sponge bath.
"Nurse", he mumbles from behind the mask, "are my testicles black?"
Embarassed, the young nurse replies, "I don't know sir, I'm only here to wash your upper body and feet."
He struggles to ask again, "Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?"
Concerned that he might elevate his blood pressure and heart rate from worrying about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrasment and pulls back the covers.
She raises his gown, holds his manhood in one hand and his testicles gently in the other.
She looks very closely and says "there's nothing wrong with them sir. They look fine."
The man slowly pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her and says very slowly, "thank you very much. That was wonderful. Now listen very very closely, are -my -test -results- back?"

My $0.02

There’s a “stain” on every generation of human beings. Vegans probably think our eating beef, poultry, and bacon, etc., is unconscionable. Time will tell who is right. Many folks think women terminating their pregnancies before childbirth will not be viewed favorably some time distant from now. The decimation of the Native American populations isn’t universally viewed as our finest hour. There are probably countless grievances we can hold against historical generations but I think it’s probably best just to try to learn from history and work to build a better world. The future is likely to condemn us for things we accept today which may be unimaginable in that future time. Slavery, for example didn’t start in the western hemisphere and the institution was thousands of years old. The end of slavery in America was a turning point in the millennia of things. I see that as an achievement of our Republic. At this point, I personally think the only thing I’m going to have to answer to future generations for is my fondness for prime rib, country ham, bbq chicken, savory catfish, and maybe my gas guzzling road machines. jmo.

Like your post and well stated. Just add some homemade biscuits and gravy in there!

I think we can all agree on that, but the discussion has not been about what we consider slavery in the 21st century, but how pro-slavers viewed slavery in 1860. And to antebellum pro-slavers a slave was property, slavery was protected by the Constitution, so to them slavery was very much a states' right issue.

Man. There have been some really good ones through the years (IMO, not nearly enough though).

"Glory" has to be up there of course. One of my favorites from childhood (actually need to find it again) was a John Wayne movie. I think it was called "Shiloh". I'll have to look it up to be sure.
Where’s your home-made footage from 1862?
