According to that Alabama is going to get absolutely hammered by the virus. I don't know what's happened there that makes their situation so different from surrounding states but they are expecting a ton of cases there. Far more than surrounding states. The projection isn't good for TN at all but AL is downright scary.

This IHME model is being used by most Governors and Mayors to try and predict how many hospital beds and ventilators they will need in each state. This is why they are trying to get ALL the federal stockpile to NY state alone.

The COVID-19 numbers as of Today for TN are:
3633 positive cases
328 hospitalized.

If you go to the IHME TN projections tab you can hover over the April 5th date on the TN projected curve to see what the IHME model projection was for Hospital Beds/ICU Beds etc. The projected numbers for TN was:
4078 hospital beds needed by Today
1028 ICU beds needed by Today.

So the IHME projections for TN were 4028 projected vs 328 actual (12x too high) for hospitalization rate as of April 5th.

I have seen it reported that this IHME overestimation for hospital/ICU beds has been typical for all but 4 or 5 states... and these states were the few that already had a low estimate of beds needed.

The "experts" that put this model together have used Italy as the closest comparison to the US to get these hospitalization rates, but it looks like the US results are much better than Italy so far. This is another reason you are seeing only 20 patients currently on the US Comfort Navy ship in NY City.
