If I Were Mike Hamilton...

What the crap has Butch Davis ever done to make so many fans want him to come here?? That just perplexes me that anyone would want him to come here. I really hope they get a big name and accomplished coach and not pick someone from the "good ole boy" club.

That would be Butch Davis

What non-legacy players did Trooper Taylor get for us? I remember Demetrice Morley. Any good ones?

I don't see Leach's offense being very successful in the SEC. He's in the right conference for his type of offense...the Big 12 (no defense). Myer runs the spread at Fla but its the running spread (basically the same offense [VEER]that Johnson is running at Ga Tech but from the shotgun). Must be balanced to win in the SEC, not one sided.:twocents:

The guy saying Florida runs the same offense as Georgia Tech from the shotgun is really cracking me up.

I cannot believe, with all of the resources available online and elsewhere (to say nothing of me around on this very board), the total lack of basic offensive and defensive knowledge that exists everywhere.

Of course, the fact that ESPN believes Joe Morgan and Emmitt Smith to be great analysts in spite of their doing zero research before going on the air may contribute to that somewhat.

I get the impression that Leach might be a bit excentric to fit in on the Hill. It certainly isn't the only criterium, but meshing in personality with the rest of the university is going to factor into the hire.

I'm amazed that so many don't appear to recognize this possibility. I don't think he's a good fit at all and if we're going to go after a guy because of his offensive scheme, then there are a few guys you can grab for that. On the surface, Leach and Tennessee would mix like oil and water.

I like Hat's list. Mine (excluding Gruden, Cowher, and Davis) would go:

1. Patterson
2. Kelly
3. Kiffin
4. Harbaugh
5. Riley

Petersen and Leach have no business at Tennessee. If they come, we'll be doing this again in a few years.

Butch Davis had a nervous breakdown coaching in Cleveland and had to leave the NFL

We don't need him at Tennessee

That should certainly put him behind all of the candidates on the list that have won national championships.

I have no idea whether that it true or not. It certainly isn't keeping him from winning games in Chapel Hill.

Phil won an NC. Perhaps we should renegotiate with him.

That's been my point the whole time. All of Davis' "success" was in the same era as Fulmer's success. And as Phil shows, it doesn't matter.

I still am not convinced Davis is not a one season wonder in a weak conference.

All I have evidence of is that he can recruit...and that he can't get his players to play to their potential. (The fact that Coker won a NC with Davis' players is evidence of that)

true, but he's under very little pressure to win there
It's a BB school
