Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Everyone wants the numbers to go down, for this to be over, and for the country and the world to get back to a state of normalcy.

One can still really want that, as I do, but loathe Trump even more for his role in poorly handling it.

How specifically has he handled it poorly?

Main one, by far, is testing. He should have been all over that and instead continues to mislead with the claim we are testing more than anyone, when comparatively we are far behind. Distancing earlier. Use or threat of use of DPA much earlier to get ventilators made. Recommend closing non essential businesses earlier.

Its also his demeanor and how his lackadaisical attitude has 1) led his followers to not take it seriously, thereby spreading the disease through inaction and inattention to the facts; 2) given cover to Republican Governors to fail to act responsibly.

Back to the question.

Did the CDC say they needed the POTUS to take some action to accelerate testing that he did not take? If you recall, the CDC thought they had testing under control until they learned they did not.

Distancing - if you heard the press conference today Fauci and Birx both said they did not recommend this earlier and the reason is they did not then AND STILL DO NOT know if it was necessary. It entirely depends on the state of infection at the time and at the time there were not significant indicators of infection that merit such a strategy. It was the Italy experience per Dr. Fauci and Birx and the New Rochelle situation that merited that recommendation.

There is no indicator that the medical advisors/CDC asked for help with testing and Trump delayed in any form nor is there any indicator that the medical advisors/CDC requested any social distancing strategy that Trump delayed.

In short there are no examples I've seen where the experts advised him to take an action that he did not.

Counter to that, they did not advocate for a travel ban in January that he did enact but now they acknowledge it was the right action to take.

I suggest you fact check the narrative
PolitiFact - Celebrities are sharing a misleading post about Trump’s response to coronavirus

Oh it's all been cleaned up nicely with the new Coronavirus bill. Trumps billion dollar proposed cuts to the CDC had turned into a 2.5 billion emegency funding.

So still no examples of recommendations from the medical advisors in the government that Trump ignored.

Keep Googling fellas! I'm sure you'll find something.
Strange, I can't find anything that his advisers advised him to do at all to prepare for this. Are you sure he has advisers?

Proposed - so he didn't actually "cut the budget" by 80% did he?

I'm not trying to be a nit picker but almost all the claims that Trump did this or this fail to materialize. I agree that his words have been problematic at times but when it comes to actions I still don't see any fact-based examples where the experts told him to do something (other than stop tweeting) that he did not do.

A pattern is emerging...

The beginning of the press conference he is okay. Not great, but okay. When he gives information, that is helpful. He usually throws in a pat on the back to himself, which is annoying, but its him.

The experts speak and that's good. Often very helpful and useful.

Then Pence, who comes across as perhaps the least sincere person of all time, comes up and says some platitude or two, contributing nothing of value. He is so schamltzy and fake its disgusting.

Then Trump comes back up to spend the next 30 minutes and alternately congratulates himself with no justification, insults anyone who dares ask him a tough question, suggests vague conspiracies to distract, and then circles back to congratulate himself again.

Usually lasts 60-90 minutes, of which 10 has any real value.
I would suggest you just listen to 10 minutes then.

I’m not going to quote the whole thing for you. Open and read it. Received warnings to take it seriously including needing tests and he ignored it.

I told you I can't open it without paying it - who recommended those things and what does "ignored it" mean in the context of the article?

EDIT: Worked around the paywall. Only specific recommendation I could find in the article was for "Trump to be tougher of China for not letting the CDC in". Otherwise there was no reporting on things Trump was being advised to do that he did not do.

Like Cuomo who said he underestimated it?

No that was his request.. In other words his intentions that were avoided by I don't know what you would call it... maybe a God Smack?

Basically blames Trump and Congress for not taking measure. No recommendations.
"U.S. intelligence agencies were issuing ominous, classified warnings in January and February about the global danger posed by the coronavirus while President Trump and lawmakers played down the threat and failed to take action that might have slowed the spread of the pathogen, according to U.S. officials familiar with spy agency reporting.
The intelligence reports didn’t predict when the virus might land on U.S. shores or recommend particular steps that public health officials should take, issues outside the purview of the intelligence agencies."
