Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Do you do body work yourself, or replace some pieces, and let somebody else straighten and paint?
I hand off the paint to someone else. I do the replacement. I've tried painting in the past but it didn't go well. I try to not buy damage beyond my scope...like frame damage and such.

I've liked the style ever since I saw my first one about 10 years ago. It's one of those love em or hate em styles, but I like it. I prefer the 6 cylinder all wheel drive model.

I'm absolutely sold on AWD If BMW does it as well as Subaru, it should be great. I hit something on the interstate in my Legacy GT and the left front went flat almost immediately (low profile tires) - had trouble getting through traffic to the shoulder to stop, but the car handled perfectly the whole time. If the tire warning light hadn't come on pretty much instantaneously, I wouldn't have known anything was damaged until I heard the thump thump ...

Unrelated.
I'm gonna try for another BMW X6. The one in Nashville sold for too much money. There is one for sale on Wednesday in Tanner, Al. I drove down there and checked it out on Friday. Wish me luck.

My old sales grounds. Lived in Athens and Madison for 12 years. Only thing I remember bout Tanner are a bunch of cotton fields, but I imagine it has grown up.

From the little that I know, the even number X cars (2,4, and 6) are sedan like. The 1,3,5, and do they even make a 7 are SUV like. Right?
That's my take on it, too. There is a 7 in production. BMW's top of the line luxury SUV. Honestly, I prefer my Acura MDX for small SUV. Rides like a Lexus, but has enough room for our needs without the hugeness of a Suburban. But I really like the style of the X6.

First I've ever been there. There is a Robotics business park across the street from Calhoun Community College. Looks awkwardly out of place, though. lol.

How much is a new X6, 60-70 grand?

Had to look that up as I could not even remember, but now that I did I remember them because they did some training for the Boeing Delta IV rocket plant when they opened. Should of been a Thompson Equipment right there and the old closed GM Delphi plant that I did business with. You were closer to Decatur but I do not know where the town lines split and Decatur is across the river.

I've started playing some old Joe Diffie country songs. I wasn't quiet sure who he was bc country music is not my first love in music. Dude died Sunday 3/29/2020 in Nashville bc of covid-19 at just 61. Prayers for his family in this time of need and for all the families that this nasty thing has touched in one way or another....there's hope in Jesus.

You are obviously more full of crap to fill it up faster than him.

I've been reading about septic tanks, and I'm kinda sorry I have. I remember growing up everybody had septic tanks, and the rule was never mess with one if it was working right. Now you read you have to pump at least every 3 years or you'll ruin the system. Anyway the first call was we can get to you tomorrow and pump but I have to uncover the cover. The second is coming by sometime today to see what's going on. Not even going into where the tank may be after going under the house to locate the clean-out - but it looks like I planted a deck and a large hydrangea over it - according to my wife's instructions. And somehow since she called the second place while I was out digging around, she's doing all the work, and it's all my fault - and don't talk to her. Can't figure out how I missed the tank while planting the hydrangea many years ago.

A completely assembled deck can be removed and reinstalled.

I have moved a 12x14 or 16? Deck from the back of an existing house out across the yard, built a huge room addition, then moved it and attached it to the addition. Requires some ingenuity and such but can certainly be done without having to rebuild a deck board by board. To move yours 20 feet or so wouldnt be that hard unless you live on a steep hill ...

Edit: I did it using a small tractor smaller than a bobcat on 1 side, while my cousin and I carried the other side slowly across the yard. Could also be done with a boom truck or small crane, but they usually have a 4 hour minimum rental...

This one is only about 10x10 and on those concrete pyramidal blocks (no getting under it), and I did a good job fastening it to the foundation wall below the decking and the decking goes a little under the larger deck, so I've taken up four decking boards. I found the clean-out and it actually lines up with a vent which makes it easy to locate outside, but the thought of a vent and pipes that close in the winter seems wrong. I came out about 5 feet and started a small hole - I'm about a foot deep and the only hard things were rocks. Got the shakes - apparently I used up my breakfast calories, so I'm sitting and pondering if I'm in the wrong spot or not deep enough yet.

I really do hate people.

My apartment is right across the parking lot from the trash. One of my neighbors went out. Out the trash on the back of their full sized pick up truck. Drove to the trash compactors, dropped it in, and then drove back to their parking spot. Round trip, 30 seconds.

No wonder we are a bunch of fat arses.

Heard gurgling in the downstairs toilet - air bubbling up in the bowl. I took a shower the next day - things seemed OK. That night my wife took a shower and it overflowed downstairs. A flush from upstairs right now does OK, but a shower is too much. No yucky stuff coming up downstairs - just looks like water from the shower - no smell. Appears that either the tank is full - or not draining well through the field line, or the line to the septic tank is partly blocked. As my wife said, forty years was a good run. One thing for sure, a repair spread out over forty years is a lot less than what we'd have paid on our water bill for sewer service. Had to do dishes and the dishwasher uses a pretty small amount of water - more efficient use of water than hand washing; the drain after the first wash was no problem.
Sorry I missed this.
I’ll read on in a second to see if you have an answer.....but......you could have something stuck in the drain pipe before the tank. You should have a clean out under the house where the line leaves the house. You can open that line an attempt to clear the line.

We had this exact problem a couple years back and it was something hung up in the line before the tank. Cleared it with a snake and haven’t had a problem since

Thank you. I knew about the clean out under the house because somebody forgot to put the plug in when they finished the house - fortunately it was just water that got dumped. The continuing story is that the plumbing/septic service did show up yesterday and determined it's the septic system, and we located the tank - the top is 10 ft long and goes partly under the deck, so that's another fun thing to consider. They didn't come back today - I suppose because of rain. The extent of the deck "modification" depends on what we find when it's all uncovered.
