Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

When I first noticed the problem, it was just the gurgling downstairs when my wife was in the shower upstairs - she likes to use a large shower head and handheld shower at the same time - lots of water flow. It got my attention, and I started reading up on it - this was maybe Thursday night. The next day it gurgled during my shower (I use a low flow head - and long showers), and then later overflowed when she took her shower. On Saturday I had her watch while I took a shower and yell if there was a problem - I hadn't been in that long when she yelled. She managed it with a carpet cleaner. I found out this morning that I can do a quick shower - on and soap - then on again for rinse. The fact that it will eventually overflow leads me away from the vent and more to the drain and septic system. So not completely blocked, but definitely slow to drain. So far the front loading washer and dishwasher do OK, but we're limiting that to real necessities. It's a nuisance, but better than when the power goes out - and a lot better than the snowstorm when we lost power and water.
I may have missed this, but have you pumped the tank recently?

Not in 40 years - the system has been completely untouched. This is the first sign of any problem at all. That's why I'm not really upset.
In our previous new house, it had to be pumped after 10 years after it backed up. I was told that was a long time. Depends upon the size of your tank, number of people, how well your field drains, etc.

Well that was a mess - naturally it started with a wife. I told her how to do the shower ... but like all wives she knows and waves you off. Besides she was in the Navy and they had to do short showers in the field hospitals at ... Talking to wives is like talking to walls - except walls just don't tell you they know better.

Mine got slightly pissed at me this afternoon, but she got over it. I was pressure washing the house, and she was telling me how to set the ladder straight, etc. She went inside for a few minutes, came back out, and I said "I'm glad you came back out because I'm shocked I was able to proceed without you here guiding me." That went over about as well as one could expect.

If that is the case, Signal may not be the place to be. I lived up there across from the golf course in 1985.

We used to drive up there in the late 70's when it snowed and sled on the fairways, probably right across from your house. Played golf up there occasionally about 15 years ago when Chattanooga CC was closed and they had the reciprocal. Pretty neat at that time as we got to play Cleveland, Lookout, and Council Fire.

Not in Georgia. They've closed all parks and trails here. Someone poated a video yesterday where they had put up barrels and tape. Bunch of people from metro area tore it down and parked anyway. The video was their cars being towed. I hate it, but there are signs everywhere. I don't get the danger in hiking though.

That's too bad because there are a lot of good places to hike in north georgia.

I could walk across the street just a few yards to the first green.

I remember No 1 was along the tree lined road. For the life of me I cannot remember what holes we sled on as I remembered it being along the road as well, but No 1 is not hilly at all, that I remember.

The only thing that I ever did on that course was to sneak over there late and chip, pitch and putt on number one green. I don't know the holes. Google map would have it, or the Signal Mtn CC website probably.

It's the schools man. I'd rather buy an appreciating asset than pay to send my kids to private school. The ROI on that is pretty trash. Most of the people I know that went to McCallie/Baylor wind up going to UTC or UTK. We wound up buying new, close is tomorrow. Found out this week that Costco will deliver but not set up the fridge now, and I'm wondering if we're going to be able to find anyone to move our furniture. Sears is leaving appliances at people's doors, which is completely assholish.

I’m finding I get along quite well with my wife when I’m self-quarantining 20 miles away.

My friend who lives on Tybee Island told me after they boarded up access to the beach the kids just partied on the street.

There is one that is similar on Cape San Blas Florida, not far from our place. It is right on the beach, and the hurricane didn't touch it.
i saw a dome house on a television show. built on the beach. designed intentionally to be 'hurricane proof". is that the one you're mentioning?

Edit. just looked it up on google images. im thinking of a different one.
