100% correct. I work daily with contractors which has their employees and most are FKD and my company can't help them either since they aren't employee's and co-employment laws, blau blau blau. I'm wishing for the best and my company has 29,000 contractors too and each has about 5-50 employee's so do the math.

The only good news is two of our largest retail customers Home Depot and Lowe's are considered essential and we are still running. Plus, our supply chain business and Last Mile divisions is all still working and shipping and moving and delivering supplies, medicine, mask you name it we are shipping it and delivering it still for now.

JB Hunt?

My brother-n-law got laid off 2 weeks ago from a small company and my step daughter got laid off last week from a small company and one of my contractors wife got laid off today from a small company. I thought the plan was the companies get the money, grants and tax incentives if they DON'T lay off employees but seems like small companies are doing the exact opposite from what I see.

Yea, pretty sure the small business incentives offered by the relief deal will give you money as long as you keep your entire payroll. It is just going to take a few weeks for that to happen.

Edit: I see further responses.

People are dying from COVID who wouldn't be dying from the flu. With an immunologically naive population the scary estimates of how many people must get it (R0 = 1.5 to 3.5, 33% to 71% of the population), or must get immunity from a vaccine, are completely real. The difference between 1M to 2M dead and 100K to 200K dead is social distancing. If you think that 1M to 2M dead is no big deal, then sure, it is over-hyped.

But when counting the cost, consider every person over 50 who is influential you: family, mentors, teachers, ministers, artists, musicians, (former) athletes, coaches, business leaders, community leaders, etc. And then consider that there is a significantly increased risk of those people dying early. I'm a small business owner. I support about 100 people. I don't know the implications of this to the future of my business, but I am unwilling to put my business ahead of the older people who are important to me.

No fan of the PRC, I believe we are in an economic war with them and do get frustrated that politicians on both sides of the aisle have let them get away with corporate espionage and copyright infringement, not to mention their military espionage. They are our primary geopolitical advisory of the 21st century and people don't want to face that fact if they think they can make money off of them. (If I were the President I would stick it to them by arming Taiwan and Vietnam to the hilt. It would make them crazy.)

But while their food distribution system and their desire to stifle all criticism is to blame for this pandemic, I don't doubt that their extreme isolation methodology has produced positive results. Problem is that you could never use that course of action here. So we're heading down a long road that is going to be economically and emotionally devastating.
They are more afraid of Taiwan than anything because they actually know how to run a capitalist economy better than we do.

Worst part about this covid is it all but ensures JJ Peterson never has an impact here. Anyone have any confidence he doesn’t come to fall camp with a gut again?
While I like JJ, I don't that would be the worst thing, even as far as the team is concerned. For myself, we had highly rated recruits in the past that did not pan out.

That entire situation is awful and I'm sorry you're having to endure it. We would all be lucky to have a friend like you tho. You're going above and beyond.

Johns Hopkins showed it dropping 400. That's really not super relevant for one day, it's happened several times before. The bigger good news is that the log graph is clearly rolling off. It won't be nearly as clear cut as Italy, because we are 50 state governments and 1 federal. The US as a whole is clearly doing better, but different states doing different things makes this a far more complex model.

The bottom line is that distancing is working. The other bottom line is that distancing is temporary. Only immunity is permanent. Either we get it, or we get vaccinated, and until that happens, this ain't over. Now, or May, or even July. If somebody comes up with a decent treatment, then immunity could easily come from letting us get it. Barring that or a vaccine, it'll be a slow burn of distancing until herd immunity is reached.

I agree. I see this thing dragging out with a peak-mitigation measures-trough-loosening-peak-mitigation measures-trough-etc. thing going on until we get better pharmaceuticals and ultimately a vaccine.

The peaks will get smaller and smaller, but I just don't see getting a burnout like SARS. It's too catching and too survivable (which is ultimately good, but perpetuates the contagion). None of the current pharmaceuticals sound all that greatly promising to me. I'd think we'd hear better numbers from early trials. But when we're talking millions, a few percentage points can make the difference for tens of thousands. Hopefully, they get something soon because any vaccine is going to take a while.

Everyone has to remember it's not just the U.S. This thing is going to echo around the world until we get widespread distribution of an effective vaccine. I haven't heard of any contact tracing efforts in the U.S. like South Korea or even Germany are doing, but maybe that happens once we get through the current peak. I just wonder how big that peak gets.

That’s an awful lot to be going on for you, I wished I had wise words for you. May God give you the strength to weather this storm going on in your life, for that is what it is, like all storms, it won’t last. 😞

Thanks, fortunately we have good doctors, good insurance, and enough food and money to get through this. A lot of others are not as fortunate. The tough part is being separated from family, friends, and church during this time. I hope we get to sit back and enjoy our football at Neyland later this year and look back and be stronger for what has happened.

was that Conway Freight before?

Yes Conway was one of the companies we bought out in 2015 along with several others during that time or before. Conway was probably the best of the companies XPO bought out so far. Made XPO basically the 2nd largest LTL company in the country overnight just behind Old Dominion and just ahead of Fedex freight.

But I work in our Last Mile division for home deliveries and installs.
