Not a lever, but the Marlin Camp 9 Carbine is a real sweetheart.

I have a Camp 9, a Camp 45, and a 922 M, which is the same basic rifle in .22 Magnum.

I remember looking at those at the I-75 expo 15 years ago. You could get one in decent shape for 250-300. I looked on GB and none going for less than 500 now. At the time I could find the occasional .30 carbine for not much more so I stuck with those and they've appreciated pretty well.

I learned 65 years ago at age 5, and still haven't had a strong enough urge to go shoot somebody.

Like the M1 Carbine, but I don't own one. I think I paid about $300 for my Camp 9 about 12 years ago, and more than that for the 45 a couple years later, but I can't remember how much. The 922 M was bought new by my brother, and it was left to me.

In many rural parts of our country and those that hunt 9 is probably a little on the older side. I would have been out there sooner if my mom had allowed it. I would walk our farm for hours with a .22 looking for groundhogs, or go across the road to neighboring farms to do the same. No one checked on me and somehow I lived. My grandpa would honk the truck horn to let me know to come back.

Oh BS. I'm from that rural part of the country and we called those people rednecks. You must have really been in the sticks. My county is probably 70% trump. They didn't have hunter safety until HS.

I was probably experimenting with my parents .22's when I was 11 and I had older brothers and I know they didn't offer hunter's safety in school until you were in HS. Where did you get your hunter safety badge, Cub scouts?

TWRA offers Hunter’s Safety courses for anyone aged 9 or above. I’m sure most state agencies do as well.

Got mine through 4H around 10 years old.

I love to shoot with rifles, Hunter's safety doesn't teach you anything about handguns and self defense.

At 13 you need a license to hunt and to get that license you need to pass the hunter's safety course. If you were waiting until high school you were behind the pack. The class I went to was done at night at a middle school. You had to go to so many classes and then had a multiple choice test and a live fire test at the end. They made me shoot a 12ga semi for the shotgun part, about broke my arms but I managed to nick one pigeon.
