Distance...at least in the Marine Corps (my Army brothers can answer for themselves) is done in single fire mode. Aim and fire. Of course that changes depending on the amount of fire being returned. Otherwise your just firing down range, hoping you hit something.
same with Army. Burst is only meant to suppress targets and we rarely use it. Single fire is way more accurate.

Fully automatic weapons serve a purpose, but in the hands of an individual, it is mostly used for supression fire. There is a reason military squads generally only have one fully auto weapon in them. After the first three rounds, you lose accuracy.

Now a fully auto large weapon...mounted...that's a different story.
Peepaw having flashbacks of Guadalcanal....

Many? How many? How many have committed war crimes? Give me a number. Then give me that number in comparison to those that are serving and the millions that have served.

Ridiculous statement. I'm going to assume you have never donned a military uniform. If you have, that makes your statement even more absurd.
You'll find a higher percentage of crimes in congress and celebrities alone . Their numbers pale in comparison to all the folks that served.

Which strongly suggests that the large number of us former soldiers and marines out here could still be an effective fighting force with our lowly AR15s...with Eotech holo sights, swing over magnifiers, and the 20 other accessories the Army frowned on.

A former military force would be a force to be reccond with for sure, but without heavy military equipment, it would still lose.

that's awesome.

does anyone in here have a positive view of our Government?

My point wasn't to knock our federal government, but rather to counter the argument that somehow a constitutional republic is even remotely similar to a a true authoritarian government. The states still have powers as guaranteed by the Constitution, we still have a system of checks and balances, and each state still has representation in Congress.

All this Civil War talk...if you have Netflix (who doesn't), reminder that Ken Burns Civil War documentary is still on there. Probably the best documentary ever made. Really drives home how crazy it was and still is that you had Americans slaughtering each other en masse in places we live and work today. Tennessee was damn near the epicenter of the whole thing.

Just the trailer alone is epic:

States successfully sue the federal government all the time in the courts over a myriad of issues.
I am aware. But what’s the biggest issue they sue over, win, and don’t get some attenuated version of what they asked for? Weed right? That’s the biggest thing a state can get really, unless it’s agreeable with centralization of power. Anyways, I didn’t say things were hopeless. I could see one of the liberal states that are less concerned with imperialism (Cali, Washington st, maybe Oregon) trying to secede in the next 20 years.

War crimes are against an enemy you have a built up hatred for. You’re talking about smoking fellow Americans. Would never happen in the take back the guns scenario presented.
While it's hard to believe it "could happen here", military dictatorships have been extremely common around the world over time. The US has backed or created some of them.

I agree with others it is highly unlikely to happen here within any near future, but I'm not going to say it is impossible. Especially if there was a major crisis/tipping point. Once a military leader is in power and uses the full support of the military, things can happen quickly.

Ok I’m out for a few days. Thanks SS, Ivan, and others for arguing with me. I apologize to everyone else for derailing things.

None of those states will secede. They are all so broke they are heavily dependent on massive federal funding. If anything, it would be middle America that secedes if a far left government gains control of the branches of government and tries eliminating the electoral college (as they began screaming for after they lost the 2016 election), among other things. Give control of the presidential election to NY and Cali, and there would be no reason for middle America to remain in the Union.

I hope they have urinal troughs in the away locker room with overwhelming smell of piss

When I played HS football all the visitors' locker rooms we visited were disgusting. I know our coaches made sure our visitor's locker room was pretty nasty, and when our arch rival was in town we really, really made it nasty.

I didn't play college ball, but my dad played for Ole Miss and always said that their visitor's locker room was purposely kept pretty disgusting and that it was even worse when Miss. St. visited.

Our staff may make Neyland's visitor's locker room especially nasty as well when the Turds come calling.
