Physicians pleading with TN Governor to order a "Shelter in Place"

"Per the escalating and destructive situation with the COVID‐19 pandemic, we humbly ask you to act swiftly on behalf of the citizens of Tennessee" the letter began.

The letter went on to talk about the replication rate of COVID-19 compared to influenza saying COVID-19 is "60 to 100% more “efficient” at replicating itself."

The belief is that on an average of 10 patients get both influenza and COVID-19, the ones with influenza will pass it to about 13 people while the other will pass it to about 20 to 25 individuals.

"The mortality rate of COVID‐19 is at minimum 10x, and possibly up to 34x deadlier than seasonal influenza," says the letter.

The group of physicians is requesting that effective midnight Sunday, March 22, that Tennessee declare the shelter in place act for fourteen days with only essential personnel be deployed during this emergency.

They also are requesting that anyone returning from international and domestic travel self-quarantine for fourteen days.
Hopefully Lee doesn’t listen to them.

Ok, I buy that. Let me reword, the media doesn't want to hurt the economy but they would like to see struggle if it hurts Trump. I just don't see Trump being blamed for this.

You are regurgitating unproven conservative conspiracy theories. Trump is guilty of minimizing the threat of the virus for political purposes, for not making preparations and for still distributing false information. If you cannot recognize any of that, you are blinded by your own bias.

Not even 911 shut down the country for one week. You are delusional.
What is wrong with you that you have to attack anyone that doesn’t share your opinion? You have your opinion and I have mine. Here’s an idea...let it go. Anyone that happened to live during WWII probably believes that was most significant and I’m sure I’d agree had I lived during that time. The one last thing I’ll say is that my daily life isn’t actually drastically different. The kids are home on weekdays, the office is mostly empty, and I may have to get food to go if I eat out but a few minor adjustments isn’t life altering. Maybe when this is all over I’ll agree it is more significant but right now today it isn’t in my mind. You see it differently and that’s fine. You won’t change my mind and I won’t change yours. I’m good with having a discussion about those differences and am open to different views but not when someone like yourself starts with “you are delusional”.

This has probably been stated ad nauseam but maybe they have reason to believe the curve could be higher because this is more contagious. Unless I am missing something, I'm not sure why this is difficult to grasp. I don't know but it seems many want to believe it's a hoax.
No one is suggesting it is a hoax... People are saying that the reaction and the panic is overblown and unnecessary.

This virus will kill more than 911. You are delusional.
In the US? Maybe it will and maybe it won’t. Will it kill more than H1N1? Or how about the flu? You’re projecting and assuming and that apparently works for you so stay home the next 18 months until this is over.

Here we go with your worst case scenarios and anecdotes. You’ve had some real doozies so far in this thread.

What good does any of this do? Where is there any data backing any of this **** up? So you heard from somebody about some kids on ventilators. We’re they COV-ID patients? How do you know? What is their status? Are they suffering from anything else?

Why post stuff with no backing and no evidence and no context? Honestly, I’m being serious. Why post some of the stuff you do?

They have been tested and results are either not complete or haven't been made public. I didn't say anything about them probably or likely having CV-19. The greater point, which is on topic, btw, is that they are on ventilators. If they do or don't have the virus, they could be asthmatic, coming from an environment of secondhand smoke. (see the post I responded to.) but still quite serious, and needing the ventilators.

Insults aside, I'd rather you be right about this whole thing being an overreaction.

Other than that, I post a mixture of thoughtful posts and rhetoric, same as about everyone. I don't have to post anything, neither does anyone.

No doubt. If we get that many severe cases then UT would likely get overwhelmed but there are other area hospitals that have them and I believe only around 15% of total cases are severe if I recall correctly from Italy’s numbers. I assume with their population age and poor handling of the virus that we wouldn’t have a higher percentage of severe cases. So if UT has 50 and the percentage of severe cases is 15% then we would need 333 cases to fill up just UT. That’s about the number of cases in all of TN with only 4 in Knox County. With that said, it obviously can jump up quickly and overwhelm the system so we need to be ready to act if needed.
UT is not and will not be overwhelmed

Dude, we just had a story of Tennessee distilleries volunteering to make more alcohol needed for sanitizing. But we need a govt mandate or executive order for companies to do the right thing?
I don't know--maybe we do.

The point is just because Trump has talked about the act doesn't mean it's actually being used.

Oh hell. This could get interesting. What kind of business you got? You don't have to be too specific if you don't want to. Just curious.
To be clear I don’t own the business but I am the national logistics manager, we found a way to stay open in California and will do the same here. We are a countertop distribution/manufacturing company

That is your issue. You are only looking at "your situation". I'm looking at the larger picture. There are people out of work and businesses closed because of govt mandates. That is significant. And they are talking about multiple weeks of this.

You have your head in the sand. And yes, your myopic view makes you delusional.
