Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

True but, negative pressure rooms are scarce. I asked Ricky the number but I'd guess UT hospital has less than 100. Maybe less than 50.
No doubt. If we get that many severe cases then UT would likely get overwhelmed but there are other area hospitals that have them and I believe only around 15% of total cases are severe if I recall correctly from Italy’s numbers. I assume with their population age and poor handling of the virus that we wouldn’t have a higher percentage of severe cases. So if UT has 50 and the percentage of severe cases is 15% then we would need 333 cases to fill up just UT. That’s about the number of cases in all of TN with only 4 in Knox County. With that said, it obviously can jump up quickly and overwhelm the system so we need to be ready to act if needed.

Yeah I don’t get it. We averaged 1000+ deaths per month for a year with H1N1. Just in the U.S..

This current response to COVID-19 makes zero sense.

This has probably been stated ad nauseam but maybe they have reason to believe the curve could be higher because this is more contagious. Unless I am missing something, I'm not sure why this is difficult to grasp. I don't know but it seems many want to believe it's a hoax.

I'm either FOS, or a POS... coming from someone who gets on here everyday downplaying the seriousness of CV-19.

Sounds to me like you are afraid that some child might need a ventilator and one may not be available.

Guess what?, it's probably going to happen, and if it does, it will be partly due to people like you.

edit: GAVOL, delete this if you like....

Here we go with your worst case scenarios and anecdotes. You’ve had some real doozies so far in this thread.

I believe there is another factor not being considered. The longer the exposure, the more likely your body gets overwhelmed. Just my theory here, but which would you rather have, a small touch and go exposure, or a lengthy continual exposure? I'm thinking the fatality rate increases, as well as the average age of mortality decreases with longer periods of exposure.

Yeah, I figure Trump has it. And if it affects him, you know it's a full-blown crisis. It'll just take a little time for some on here to get the go-ahead to "panic".

What good does any of this do? Where is there any data backing any of this **** up? So you heard from somebody about some kids on ventilators. We’re they COV-ID patients? How do you know? What is their status? Are they suffering from anything else?

Why post stuff with no backing and no evidence and no context? Honestly, I’m being serious. Why post some of the stuff you do?

Utter nonsense. If the economy tanks, no one can afford to buy an ad. Selling ads is how the media stays in business.

Ok, I buy that. Let me reword, the media doesn't want to hurt the economy but they would like to see struggle if it hurts Trump. I just don't see Trump being blamed for this.

Yep. NY has 46% more cases than yesterday. I'm sure that's just positive tests but how many will need a ventilator in the coming days.

But that wasn’t the question. The question was which one has more national significance, assuming nothing else really would qualify. I agree this one is more disruptive to daily life but I believe a foreign attack in our soul is more significant than a viral attack. If it turned out this was actually an act of war from China then that is a different story. And right now the death count for Americans isn’t even close.
Not even 911 shut down the country for one week. You are delusional.

Government overreach already is and I don’t disagree that it is more impactful on our daily lives but an attack on our soil killing thousands is more significant than a virus killing hundreds or even a virus killing a similar number. I don’t see how some go from this is basically like the flu to being more significant than 9/11. That’s quite a jump and maybe it is different people as I can’t keep up with everyone’s beliefs on here. Basically it comes down to what you believe. I do believe the virus is having a bigger daily life impact but I believe 9/11 to be more significant. They aren’t the same thing.

This virus will kill more than 911. You are delusional.

I’m guessing that’s just due to the greater availability of testing. We will see a spike for several days and then it’ll start leveling off. I’m very curious to see what the real count is here in East TN. All I know is I’m sure enjoying having a mostly empty office, although it does get too quiet at times. That’s why we have Pandora and similar apps!
