Coronavirus (No politics)

I saw somewhere last night that SARS did cause permanent lung damage.
SARS is certainly an unusually-aggressive virus, with a much higher mortality rate. Yes, it did leave long-lasting lung damage in survivors. We certainly hope this virus does not behave in the same manner.

"More Trials Needed". There is your Bureaucracy at work. Ok Then, Put it to use. There's your "Trials". Get it procured and get it into patients Now. Dead people tell no tales.
It's not bureaucracy, it's safety. Any treatment has the potential to do more harm than good.

I have seen people ask if China is still lying about if they're getting back to normal.
Satellite photos have shown no pollution in China the past two months. This week it shows huge pockets of pollution so I'm guessing that's proving people are back at work in their factories.

Of the 16k US cases..60% are in 3 states NY, WA, CA The percent of the population affected is 0.0048% and the number of serious critical cases is 64...I do look for a possible large jump this weekend early next week with several pending tests coming in...think the biggest change is ppl with minor infections will have to self quarantine as more serious cases will need hospital beds

I'm hoping that smaller cities with few/no confirmed cases yet will manage to avoid widespread infections due to social distancing/business closures taking effect before the virus managed to make inroads among the general population.
Think about the numbers if schools, business, borders, airlines and other actions had not been taken to prevent the spread. We don't know the true number but one can assume it would be larger numbers than what we will soon see. Still concerned with all the preventive measures in place.

As far as Florida goes for vacation for the ones that took it they should lock Florida down and noone allow to return.

The 4 Representatives that liquidated their accounts should go to jail. Received privileged information prior to the chaos of outbreak and cashed out.

My hopes are along these lines too. Im not seeing too much social distancing going on in Johnson City though. Most of the restaurants and bars are voluntarily closing/going to carry out only. Hopefully that forces people to do it.

And didnt warn the general public before doing so.

Cuomo orders quarantine. And so it begins. If you think this isn't government overreach, then you are naive and ignorant. This should scare everyone but you have those on both sides applauding this action. We will ALL be living on our knees in the future if this type of government intervention is allowed. Just wait and see. It's only the beginning.

@kiddiedoc and others in the healthcare profession: There are reports coming out of the UK, Spain and Iran where hospitals are now reaching the at-capacity and over-capacity stage.

What are you hearing about or seeing with US hospitals recently?

Goods supply chains....depends on the goods and the region of the world. I know that South American countries are stopping goods at the border if deemed non-essential.
That's why I said most.

Mostly I'm referring to here in the US. For all of our faults, we are more resilient than many think.

If we can get through the media sensationalizing the 'big jump' we'll see as tests clear we'll be fine. People just need to not lose their sh*t.

Do you guys think it's worthwhile to build a makeshift home gym? I live in an apartment so I can't get anything crazy. But I'm thinking about picking up an adjustable bench and maybe 3 sets of dumbbells. My apartment gym is closed until further notice, as are membership gyms, and I'm thinking that might stretch on for months.

Yep. Doctors in France & now Italy are using this combo. The US needs to get with it; and eradicate this crap. No vaccine for 18 months? Treat the sick now!

I'm assuming you didnt mean to use "eradicate". Plaquenil may help, but it's far from a benign drug. Having said that available quantities are very low at this point.

When reality starts back up, I am seriously going to consider it. I have been to five different gyms just this month alone because everything keeps closing down.

I’m not seeing or hearing anything that can be substantiated, and it’s certainly not the case at my hospital. Our ER visit numbers are actually down over the last week or so, especially amongst our regulars/frequent flyers. It’s almost as if they’re afraid of getting the virus and not coming in for their usual bullish!t.

I disagree. They're doing this because they have to babysit for the idiots. When you have college kids by the thousands on the beach not doing what the government politely ask you to do they will have no problem enforcing what you do.

If everyone would realize staying in 2 or 3 weeks is for our own good besides thinking we are being Hilterized we will be back to normal sooner than later. People like these college kids not listening are going to guarantee this lasts in to fall when we might be able to knock it out in 2 months.

Valid arguments. The other day my wife and I had to get some groceries. Most of the patrons were elderly. I kid you not. We're like WTH? The high risk group didn't seem concerned.

Have you seen the Bowflex selectable dumbbells? They aren't cheap, but very cool, esp if space is an issue.
