Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

And 10,000 could die and you would relish in it. When are you going to realize this isn’t about Trump? It isn’t about Dems or Reps. It’s about people.

That still doesn't negate the fact that this administration has been utterly incompetent in handling this thing. A week ago Trump was parroting this thing a Dem hoax and now it's a national emergency.

It’s not all about Trump but a lot of it is, to believe otherwise is naive
Did you read the article from Newt that EL posted? If you want to make this about Trump then the bottom line is he has done well to this point. As Newt said, Trump’s decisive action has saved lives. There’s always things people can do better and he’s in a crazy tough spot that no one here would want to be in and the armchair quarterback nonsense going on right now is counterproductive.

Cavalier attitude? Nah.

It’s an informed attitude. I’ve been in healthcare for 20 years.
Funny how it’s us that work in healthcare that know it’s not a big deal and those with no experience but are Facebook experts are the typical Monday morning QBs and chicken littles

We estimated excess deaths of 7,027, 20,259, 15,801 and 24,981 attributable to influenza epidemics in the 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17, respectively, using the Goldstein index. The average annual mortality excess rate per 100,000 ranged from 11.6 to 41.2 with most of the influenza-associated deaths per year registered among the elderly. However children less than 5 years old also reported a relevant influenza attributable excess death rate in the 2014/15 and 2016/17 seasons (1.05/100,000 and 1.54/100,000 respectively).

This is from my above link o. Italian flu deaths study

Trump never said it was a hoax. I don’t get how the English language can elude you but it apparently has, or at least the understanding of it. Did Trump shutting down travel from China save lives or not? I’m guessing you’re referring to the supposed disbandment of more bureaucrats in 2018. But here’s the thing. We acted quickly once this thing was discovered so there’s no guarantee having those people would have made one bit of difference. It’s all speculation. So how else has this admin failed specifically?

The CDC got caught with their pants down . They should focus less on grabbing up federal funding to research what happens to indigenous people eating wild mushrooms and start doing what they were designed to do .

The military reserves are well stocked with competent doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and technicians/corpsmen. If you really wanted a competent emergency response team, I can't think of a better place to find them. The drawback is doctors and dentists will give up a weekend a month and a couple of weeks a year, but they don't willingly give up their practices. Nurses have likely all had CBR and other military/emergency training, but hospitals would take a hit. My wife is a retired Navy Captain (Nurse Corps), and like many others her actual nursing career has been well in excess of her 22 years in the Navy Reserve. I've watched a number of extended emergency situations (like after hurricanes) and wondered why are we not tapping one of the best resources around. The really sad thing right now is that the military is downsizing ("rightsizing" and consolidating medical staffs). It seems to be more a knee jerk response to "good business practices" rather than understanding that the military reacts to situations - when you follow business practices you likely don't have extras (like ventilators) that you may need for not normal times - not that the military or medicine ever has those.

Corona virus has been around for decades just because this is a “new” strain doesn’t make it some superbug that is killing off millions. It has hit two hard elderly populations who don’t practice good sanitary customs. Something to be cautious of but in no way causing a bigger deal than H1N1 or Ebola
