Coronavirus (No politics)

I went to Kroger today just to grab a couple things and laughed that the toilet paper really was sold out. Lady doing inventory said “Yeah people went stupid”.

Joke will be on me if they don’t get any more in within the week though.

Looks like it's finally time to resubscribe to the local newspaper. Or at least the Sunday edition.

Just got word that the Quest private/commercial lab is two weeks behind on testing. That makes sending the test from the office completely worthless. The only option now is going to the health department, where they will screen patients and send specimens to the state lab, approx 48 h turnaround.

It really was a rhetorical question I suppose as I knew the answer. I've been an advocate of pulling back our products and manufacturing from China for years. China only cares about power. It's one thing to buy a Chinese TV, it's quite another to purchase food and medications from that fifthly communist regime. Anyone who did not realize this would come back to bite us in the ass is blind. I personally look for products that are not made in China.
Seems like they make a lot of cheap shat designed to tear-up after several uses. It would be great to see the U.S. ramp up it's manufacturing.I'd gladly pay higher prices for better quality products. The worse thing is being dependent on them for our medicines. We may as well not have a federal govt. if this level of incompetence continues.

First I know all this panic is BS. But I am needing some advice.

My 15 year old daughter is supposed to go on a spring break beach trip to FL panhandle on Saturday. Would you let her go?

I’m not concerned about the virus. But I am concerned about her being 8 hours away with all this general uncertainty and various cancellations.

TIA

I did a couple months ago - it's awesome. 30 bucks on Amazon!

The review that sold me

Speaking as a hirsute gentleman, the Luxe Bidet Neo 120 has soured me on pooping in bidet-less toilets forever. It's shown me the difference between rubbing peanut butter out of shag carpeting with a paper towel, and that sparkling clean feeling you get right when you step out of the shower.

The unit took me all of about 10 minutes to install on my existing toilet with only a wrench. The easy-to-control flow valve allows you to provide just the right amount of water pressure for a full range of cleaning, from "gentle trickling stream" to "full-on 'Silkwood' decontamination", ensuring the end of your bowel movement leaves you feeling cleaner and more refreshed than using just toilet paper alone. Even flush-able wet wipes pale in comparison.

You've got to be sh!tting me!

That's why the government needs to implement at the very least 7 days paid sick leave policy. Some companies only allow 2 sick days per year before you start giving slaps on the wrist to employees. During a time like this, that is unacceptable considering that there are so many employees who have to go in the office to work.

In addition, the government needs to find a way, some way, to ensure pay for hourly employees who are sick or are unable to work due to office closure. I'd hate to be the one figuring out how to allocate funds to make that possible, but it has to happen. Perhaps a temporary $1,000 monthly stipend for hourly employees who are unable to work following company closure or are sick? That isn't much, but it might just be enough to live on in the interim. IDK. Glad I'm not in charge of all that.

The last thing you want is the .gov mandating anything.

A rapid antigen test is probably quite a ways off, still. They are also not as accurate as PCR (meaning, they would miss a lot more cases). Cheap and quick are the advantages.

If this things runs its course and dies out, we might not see a rapid test at all. It would be a big financial gamble for a company to invest in development and production, at this point.
I saw this morning that a good test has been developed at the Univ. of Nebraska and they are going to fast-trac it into production. This should lower the costs and get a lot more people tested. Results are in 4 hrs. They're planning on setting up centers all across the U.S. This very much needs to happen, imo, so we can effectively track the hotspots fast and isolate those infected at a much faster pace.

Good. Lots of smart people out there. Just hope it doesn’t get bogged down by govn. regulations.
